The successful candidate will report to the Service Manager and will be responsible for supervising a team of technicians and fitters, ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective maintenance of a diverse fleet operating across our Scunthorpe site. This position focuses predominantly on fleet vehicles and will oversee the servicing, repair, inspection, and maintenance of our fleet, bulkers, coil trailers, and flatbed trailers.
This is a hands-on supervisory role requiring strong technical knowledge, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to coordinate workshop activities while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Supervise and support a team of HGV & LCV fitters and technicians, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
- Assist in planning, allocating, and monitoring daily workshop activities, prioritising workloads to minimise downtime and maximise fleet availability.
- Carry out preventative maintenance, servicing, inspections, and repairs while providing technical guidance to the team.
- Coordinate and oversee breakdown response activities, ensuring timely diagnosis and repair of faults.
- Review and approve maintenance records, inspection reports, and repair documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor quality of workmanship and ensure all repairs and maintenance activities meet company and industry standards.
- Support the training, mentoring, and development of apprentices, semi-skilled fitters, and new team members.
- Conduct toolbox talks and promote a positive safety culture throughout the workshop.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental procedures, including PPE requirements, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
- Carry out and review point-of-work risk assessments before work commences.
- Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and operational teams to coordinate maintenance requirements and parts availability.
- Monitor workshop housekeeping standards and ensure a clean, organised, and professional working environment.
- Assist management with performance monitoring, productivity reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote high levels of customer service, professionalism, and teamwork at all times.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience within an HGV & LCV fleet, trailer, or commercial vehicle maintenance environment.
- Previous supervisory, team leader, or senior technician experience.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Package
- Competitive salary and rates of pay. (Paid Weekly).
- Monday to Friday, 45 hours per week.
- Overtime and weekend work available depending on business requirements.

The successful candidate will be subject to our induction process, including drug and alcohol testing.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in HGV & LCV Fleet maintenance, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or senior technician role preferred.
Licence/Certification
- Driving Licence (required).
