We are now seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team and play a key role in the design, development and improvement of our machinery range. This opportunity is open to graduate candidates and those with relevant industry experience.
The Role
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for leading the design, development and continual improvement of our machinery and engineering solutions. This role ensures all design work meets required standards, supports wider business activities and contributes to the continued development of both new and existing products.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and part designs.
- Produce and review technical drawings in line with manufacturing and engineering standards.
- Develop and maintain design documentation and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Review and enhance existing machinery using modern manufacturing methods, materials and technologies.
- Perform calculations, flow analysis and stress/strength calculations.
- Ensure all designs are practical, safe, cost-effective and suitable for manufacture.
- Manage and coordinate key customer projects, ensuring technical alignment with objectives.
- Work cross-functionally with production, sales and service teams throughout each stage of development.
- Support internal communication of design intent, technical decisions and product changes.
- Support the sales team with engineering insight and technical solutions.
- Develop a strong understanding of Storth’s product range and history.
- Create and maintain operating manuals and supporting documentation.
Skills & Experience
- HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Agricultural, Design).
- Strong 3D CAD skills (knowledge of SolidWorks is preferable).
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including fabrication and sheet metal.
- Experience with stress/flow calculations and simulation.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly and practically.
- Organised, detail-focused and confident working across multiple teams.
- Experience with Sage would be beneficial (but not essential).
- Knowledge of agricultural field would be advantageous.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Experience using Sage (advantageous but not essential)
Salary: Competitive for the right candidate (dependent on experience)
Work pattern: Monday to Thursday 8:00 -17.30 and Friday 8:00 - 15:00.
