Support Children to Thrive Through Trauma-Informed Therapeutic Practice

Are you passionate about helping children and young people overcome emotional, behavioural, and developmental challenges?

The Behaviour Clinic is seeking motivated and compassionate Behaviour Therapists to join our growing associate network across South Wales. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with children, families, schools, and carers while developing specialist skills in trauma-informed care, behavioural support, therapeutic intervention, and child development.

This position is particularly suited to individuals who are developing a career in Behaviour Analysis, therapeutic support, psychology, or related professions and who want to gain experience within a highly supportive multidisciplinary team.

Position - Behaviour Therapist

Contract Type - Contract by Contract- Self employed.

Service Area - Across all services

Location - South Wales (Cardiff Base)

Pay Scale - £60-75 per session

Additional Fees - Paid Reports & Mileage

Start Date - August 2026

About The Behaviour Clinic

The Behaviour Clinic is a specialist multidisciplinary organisation providing trauma-informed support to children, young people, families, foster carers, adoptive parents, schools, residential homes, and local authorities across Wales and South West England.

Our team includes Behaviour Analysts, Play Therapists, Social Workers, Counsellors, Family Practitioners, and other therapeutic professionals who work together to improve outcomes for children and young people facing complex emotional, behavioural, and developmental challenges.

We are particularly recognised for our work with care-experienced children and our TRIBE® Trauma-Informed Care model, which combines behavioural science, attachment theory, and therapeutic practice to support meaningful and lasting change.

About The Role

Behaviour Therapists provide direct therapeutic and behavioural support to children and young people under the guidance of senior clinicians and Behaviour Analysts.

You will work directly with children, families, schools, and carers to support the implementation of therapeutic and behavioural interventions designed to improve emotional wellbeing, relationships, life skills, confidence, and positive behaviour.

This role combines practical intervention, relationship building, and therapeutic support, making it ideal for individuals who enjoy direct work with children and young people. Within this position you can gain experience in trauma informed care if you are training to be a Behaviour Analyst.

Typical Responsibilities

Deliver direct therapeutic and trauma-informed support sessions
Support the implementation of Support Plans and intervention programmes
Help children develop emotional understanding, emotional regulation, communication, and social skills
Undertake direct work in homes, schools, clinics, and community settings
Support parents, carers, and professionals to implement agreed strategies
Collect and record information to monitor progress and outcomes
Produce high-quality records and session notes
Contribute to multidisciplinary planning and reviews
Work collaboratively with Behaviour Analysts and other therapists
Support children and young people to achieve identified goals

Essential Requirements

MSc in Behaviour Analysis, Psychology, Child Development, Education, Social Care, or a related field, or currently studying towards a relevant postgraduate qualification
Alternatively, a relevant undergraduate degree with experience working with children and young people
Experience working with children, young people, or families
Ability to build positive therapeutic relationships
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively
Willingness to learn and implement evidence-based approaches
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
Strong IT skills and confidence using digital systems

Desirable Experience

Knowledge of behavioural principles and intervention strategies
Knowledge of attachment theory and developmental trauma
Experience working with care-experienced children and young people
Experience supporting foster, adoptive, or kinship families
Experience working in schools, residential care, social care, or therapeutic services
Experience delivering direct interventions to children and young people
Additional training in therapeutic approaches or child development
Experience working alongside multidisciplinary teams
