We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Wakefield, working as an Art Teacher. This position is offered on a permanent, part-time basis, working 18.5 hours per week over 2 days.

Site Information
HMP Wakefield is a Category A high-security prison for adult men, located in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Established in 1594 as a house of correction, it is one of the oldest operating prisons in England and Wales. The site forms part of the long-term high-security estate and houses individuals convicted of serious offences. It has a capacity of around 750 prisoners, with a current population of approximately 630, including about 148 Category A inmates.
Role Responsibilities
You will need patience, passion, flexibility and understanding in your approach to our learners, who have ‘hit a bump in the road’ but want to learn and improve.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will need to:
- Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months.
- Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
- Have industry/vocational experience or relevant qualifications in the subject specialism
- Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
- Have a good previous track record of achieving quality targets
- Have willingness to engage with and produce accurate and timely reports
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Have an ability to motivate and enthuse learners in the subject matter
- Demonstrate good organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines/targets
- Advocate for and engage consistently in positive team working
