About Us
Union Solicitors is an SRA-authorised law firm specialising in immigration, asylum, and human rights law. We are expanding our practice and seeking to secure a Legal Aid Agency (LAA) contract in Immigration & Asylum. We are looking for a highly experienced and accredited Supervisor to lead and develop our legal aid department.
The Role
We are seeking an IAAS-accredited Immigration & Asylum Supervisor who meets the Legal Aid Agency Supervisor Standard. You will play a key role in establishing and supervising our legal aid services, ensuring full compliance with LAA requirements and delivering high-quality representation to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the LAA Supervisor for Immigration & Asylum legal aid work
- Supervise caseworkers in accordance with LAA requirements (1:4 ratio)
- Oversee legal aid files (asylum, human rights, detention, appeals)
- Ensure compliance with the Standard Civil Contract 2024
- Maintain high standards for file management, billing, and audits
- Support the firm in securing and maintaining an LAA contract
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff
Essential Requirements
- IAAS Accreditation (Senior Caseworker / Supervisor level)
- Meets LAA Immigration & Asylum Supervisor Standard
- Proven experience in legal aid immigration & asylum work
- Strong knowledge of:
- Immigration Rules
- Asylum law and protection claims
- Legal Aid processes (Controlled & Licensed Work)
- Experience with CCMS and legal aid billing
- Ability to supervise and manage caseworkers effectively
Desirable
- Previous experience as an LAA-approved Supervisor
- Experience handling audits or peer reviews
- Ability to contribute to business development and department growth
Working Arrangements
