We are recruiting a Material Handler (360 Operator) to join the Ferrous Team at our new Barnsley site.
Barnsley is a dedicated ferrous and non-ferrous metals site, and this role will focus primarily on supporting ferrous operations. You will be responsible for operating 360 material handlers safely and efficiently to move, load and process ferrous scrap materials, ensuring production targets and safety standards are consistently met.
This is a skilled plant operator role requiring experience, strong situational awareness and a commitment to safe working practices within a busy industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate 360 material handlers to move and manage ferrous scrap materials
Feed shears, balers or other processing equipment as required
Load and unload articulated vehicles and containers safely and efficiently
Segregate and stockpile materials in line with grading requirements
Maintain awareness of traffic management plans and pedestrian safety
Conduct daily pre-start inspections and complete required documentation
Report mechanical defects, damage or performance issues immediately
Carry out routine cleaning and basic maintenance of your allocated machine
Work to production targets while maintaining high safety standards
Machine Responsibility
Operators are expected to take ownership of their machine, including:
Completing daily inspections and defect reporting
Monitoring wear and identifying potential mechanical concerns
Maintaining cleanliness of the cab and external machine areas
Operating in accordance with manufacturer guidance and company procedures
Health, Safety & Compliance
Operate plant in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and site rules
Wear appropriate PPE at all times
Follow Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Maintain vigilance around pedestrians and other plant
Report hazards, near misses and unsafe behaviours
Support compliance with site environmental and operational standards
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Valid 360 material handler / excavator licence (e.g. NPORS or CPCS)
Experience operating 360 plant within ferrous recycling, aggregates or heavy industry
Strong awareness of safe plant operation
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Reliable and safety-focused
Desirable:
Experience within metal recycling (ferrous operations preferred)
Basic mechanical knowledge
