Full job description

Substantive | 10 PAs

Based at Sheffield Children's Hospital, you will provide consultant cover to the Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) and support Embrace, the regional paediatric critical care transport service.

Due to the nature of the work, flexibility within the rota is required. A full day on the ICU is allocated 2.5 PAs, while a day covering HDU is 2.25 PAs (to support flexibility, daytime activity is averaged over a number of weeks). The 10 PA job plan is designed with these allocations in mind. The role also includes an equal share of on-call consultant cover for PCCU and support for colleagues during absences.

If you choose a part-time contract, your duties will require the whole of your professional time, with a minimum commitment equivalent to 7 PAs per week.

Interviews expected to be held on Friday 24th July 2026.

Reporting into the Clinical Team Lead, your responsibilities will include:

Provide consultant cover for the Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU)

Continuing responsibility for patients in your care, and for the functioning of the PCCU.

On-call duties for PCCU.

Provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence.

Contribute to the training of individuals in paediatrics, adult intensive care, and advanced nurse practitioners.
