Job Introduction
In this busy customer facing role, you will be dealing with customers face to face, via email or by telephone to help answer day to day library enquiries.
Providing a high standard of customer service with a strong community focus you will help us to deliver a range of services that support the library offers, including the provision of IT support, information and activities for all ages.
Activities will vary but can include children's rhyme times, craft sessions and book-related events. In a busy library you will help people to access the full range of library resources and will contribute to people’s positive experience of using our service.
Perton Library
Perton library is a busy library located in the heart of the community and is open 7 days per week, including evenings. The role will be based in Perton but you may be required to work at other libraries in the district.
This role involves working onsite as follows, this is subject to change to reflect service need:
Alternate weekends ( Week 2) -4hrs 30mins per week average
Saturday 9.30-4.00 ( 30mins lunch)
Sunday 1.00-4.00
Main Responsibilities
To give you an idea, some of the key things you’ll do will include:

Helping customers find the information and resources they need

Providing essential digital support to customers using PCs within our libraries or accessing e-services

Supporting projects and activities for all ages

Promoting library stock, services and events through social media and outreach events

Sales and cash handling

Delivering and supporting events on a weekly basis

Supporting libraries within the district through flexible working
The Ideal Candidate
Whether you have previous library experience, or are looking for a new challenge, you will show:

GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4+) or equivalent, or relevant customer service experience

Proven experience delivering high-quality service in a public-facing or public service environment

Understanding of public library services, with experience handling confidential information accurately and securely

Strong teamwork abilities, with experience using computer systems, data entry, and attention to detail
-
Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to engage people of all ages, backgrounds, and needs
-
Flexibility, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and be able to manage challenging situations while maintaining a positive customer experience
We will aim to conduct first stage Interviews during the week starting 13th July 2026.
