Registered Veterinary Nurse (Full-time)
Vets 1 Group – Crimplesham and King’s Lynn
We are looking for a brilliant Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our large, experienced and rather lovely nursing team.
Vets 1 is proudly independent and based across two Norfolk practices: our RCVS-accredited Small Animal Veterinary Hospital at Crimplesham and our general practice in King’s Lynn.
Our philosophy is simple: we treat every patient as though they were our own animal, and every client as we would wish to be treated ourselves. That principle runs through everything we do — from the clinical standards we maintain to the way we communicate with clients and support one another as colleagues.
This is a proper nursing role within a busy and varied practice. You will be involved in surgical nursing, inpatient care, emergency work, nurse consultations, diagnostics, admitting and discharging patients and supporting our veterinary surgeons across a broad and interesting caseload.
We want our nurses to use their skills, develop their knowledge and feel that their contribution matters.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
* Delivering consistently high standards of nursing and patient care
* Supporting our veterinary surgeons with surgical, medical and emergency cases
* Monitoring, treating and caring for surgical and hospitalised patients
* Running nurse clinics and appointments
* Admitting and discharging patients and keeping owners informed throughout the day
* Providing general pet healthcare advice
* Maintaining accurate clinical records and ensuring medications are supplied correctly
* Supporting nursing assistants and student veterinary nurses
* Helping our commercial team with appropriate appointment allocation and emergency triage
* Contributing to stock control, infection control and the smooth running of the practice
* Maintaining your professional registration and completing the CPD required by the RCVS
Clinical coaching opportunities may be available for nurses who would like them, with training and allocated time provided to support students through their NPL and online portfolio.
Individual areas of responsibility are also encouraged. These might include laboratory management, equipment checks, stock control, crash trolley maintenance or another area that particularly interests you.
About you
You must be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Nurse, or approaching registration, with an appropriate veterinary nursing qualification.
Just as importantly, we are looking for someone who:
* Genuinely cares about patients, clients and clinical standards
* Communicates clearly, warmly and professionally
* Enjoys being part of a busy and supportive team
* Is organised, dependable and able to manage their time
* Takes responsibility for their work
* Is proactive and willing to get involved
* Can adapt when an unpredictable day does what unpredictable days tend to do
* Understands both the emotional and physical demands of veterinary nursing
You do not need to know everything. None of us does. You do need to care, be willing to learn and want to do the job properly.
Working pattern
The role involves working across our Crimplesham hospital and King’s Lynn practice. Although you will usually know where you are working in advance, occasional movement between sites may be required to help cover sickness or unexpected absence.
Our daytime shifts are:
* Early: 6.45am–3.45pm
* Day: 8.30am–5.30pm
* Evening: 9.30am–6.30pm
* Late: 10.30am–7.30pm
Weekend working is shared at approximately one weekend in five, with days off provided before and after the weekend.
Waking night duties are shared across the nursing team at approximately one block in ten. The block consists of four 7pm–7am shifts, with protected time away from daytime shifts before and after it.
Occasional additional night cover may be needed for sickness or holiday, but we will always provide as much notice as possible.
As patients sometimes need to be transported between our practices, nurses aged over 21 may also be asked to drive a company vehicle. A clean driving licence is therefore helpful.
What we offer
* 5.6 weeks’ annual leave, including Bank Holidays
* Additional annual leave based on length of service, rising by up to eight further days
* Company pension
* Private healthcare, currently provided by Bupa, including mental health support
* Employee Assistance Programme
* BrightExchange employee discounts and benefits
* Individual wellbeing support
* Staff discount
* CPD support
* Staff uniform
* Monthly staff lucky dip
* Birthday book vouchers for employees’ children up to the age of 16
* Enhanced Family Leave and Support
* The opportunity to work within a genuinely independent veterinary practice where good people and good nursing matter
If you are a thoughtful, capable and caring RVN who would like to be part of a practice that takes its work seriously without taking itself too seriously, we would love to hear from you.
Please send your CV and a covering letter telling us a little about yourself and why you would like to join Vets 1.
