Full job description

Job Summary
As part of the Maintenance Team, the Installation Electrician is responsible for the safe installation, modification, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment within a manufacturing environment, ensuring all work is documented with relevant test result. The role ensures that all electrical installation work complies with statutory requirements, British Standards, and company Health & Safety procedures, supporting safe, efficient, and reliable production operations.

Responsibilities

Install, modify, design and commission electrical distribution systems including connections to machinery, and control panels
Carry out installation work in accordance with BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and site standards
Carry out inspection and testing of new and existing Electrical Installations
Ensure Fixed Wire Testing is up to date and records maintained
Carry out RCD Testing
Check, maintain and upgrade Emergency Lighting
Check, maintain and upgrade Internal and External site lighting
Install, upgrade and maintain electrical containment systems including tray, basket, trunking, trunking/conduit systems, and glanding/termination
Terminate power, control, and instrumentation cabling to a high standard
Perform basic inspection, testing, and verification of installed systems, supporting Electrical Installation Certificates (EICs) where required
Support machinery installations, upgrades, relocations, and plant shutdown activities
Assist with commissioning activities and fault-finding during project handover
Liaise with maintenance, production, project engineers, and external contractors
Ensure work activities comply with Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
Maintain accurate records including test results, installation reports, and as-built information
Identify electrical hazards, non-compliances, or opportunities for improvement and report accordingly
Plan, arrange and oversee contractors where & when contractor support is required

Health, Safety & Compliance Responsibilities

Work in full compliance with:
Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
PUWER 1998, LOLER 1998 (where applicable)
Site-specific rules, permits, and risk assessments
Carry out work using approved RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)
Follow Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO) and electrical isolation procedures at all times
Use appropriate PPE and safety equipment
Actively promote a positive safety culture and report near misses or unsafe conditions

As a term of your employment, you may be required to undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required of you in the post and department mentioned above or in a comparable post in any of the Company’s other departments.

Skills

Strong knowledge of industrial electrical installation techniques
Good working understanding of BS 7671 and UK electrical legislation
City & Guilds 2391-52
Ability to work independently or as part of a project team
Strong attention to detail and quality of workmanship
Practical, hands-on problem-solving skills
Clear communication with engineers, supervisors, and operators
Flexible approach to working hours during shutdowns or critical installs

Essential

Time-served electrician or completed recognised electrical apprenticeship
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation or Engineering
18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations qualification (BS 7671)
Inspection & Testing qualification (2391 or equivalent)
Proven experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment
Asbestos Awareness Trained

Desirable

Experience with control panels, PLC systems, automation, or robotics
IPAF, PASMA, certification

Pay: £40,000.00-£43,693.51 per year
