At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.
Your impact
Every day, thousands of people rely on Scotland's bridges to get where they need to be. As South East Scotland Bridges Manager, you'll be the leader responsible for ensuring that some of the country's most vital transport assets remain safe, resilient, and fit for the future.
Managing more than 850 structures across the South East trunk road network—including complex and nationally significant bridges—you'll drive major maintenance, strengthening, refurbishment, and renewal programmes that keep Scotland moving.
This is a role with genuine influence. You'll lead strategic investment decisions, shape maintenance programmes worth millions of pounds, and guide multidisciplinary teams through the full lifecycle of bridge schemes—from investigation and design through to construction and handover.
Your leadership won't just maintain infrastructure. It will protect communities, improve network reliability, and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
About the Opportunity
You'll lead the South East Bridges Team, providing leadership across our South Queensferry, Stepps, and Bonnyrigg offices.
Working at the heart of the trunk road network, you'll oversee the identification, investigation, design, procurement, and construction management of bridge maintenance schemes across a diverse portfolio of structures.
You'll be responsible for:
Leading multidisciplinary teams delivering bridge maintenance and rehabilitation projects
Managing consultants, contractors, and specialist supply chain partners
Overseeing bridge assessments, strengthening schemes, refurbishment projects, and bearing replacement works
Driving technical excellence through design approvals, certification, and compliance with standards
Leading tender evaluations and supporting contract awards
Ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental performance, and quality
Working closely with Transport Scotland and internal stakeholders to minimise network disruption and maximise value
Acting as Principal Designer or Principal Contractor where required
Supporting the delivery of record bridge maintenance investment programmes
This is a highly visible leadership role where engineering expertise, commercial awareness, and people leadership come together to deliver infrastructure that matters.
What's In It For You?
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced bridge professional looking to combine technical excellence with leadership and strategic impact.
You'll enjoy:
Leading a highly skilled team of 21 engineers, technicians, and inspectors across multiple locations
The opportunity to shape and deliver one of Scotland's largest bridge maintenance programmes
A senior leadership role with real autonomy, influence, and visibility
Close collaboration with Transport Scotland, industry partners, and senior stakeholders
The chance to develop people, build capability, and drive continuous improvement
A varied role spanning engineering, construction, commercial management, stakeholder engagement, and operational leadership
The satisfaction of delivering infrastructure that supports millions of journeys every year
If you're motivated by meaningful work, major infrastructure challenges, and the opportunity to lead from the front, this role offers all three.
Here's what you'll need
Educated to degree level in Civil or Structural Engineering
Extensive experience in the assessment, design and maintenance of highway bridge structures.
Professional qualifications and membership of an appropriate professional body (CEng and MICE or MIStructE)
A full approved UK driving licence.
Skilled in the project management of schemes and the management of teams
