Our Edinburgh office is situated in the heart of the bustling city centre, with panoramic views of the castle, gardens and Princes Street below. The office is always alive with activity as it houses a 65-strong team consisting of mechanical, electrical, civil, structural and support teams. Purpose
As a senior member of the department your responsibilities will include the delivery and project management of the Mechanical Services Design on assigned projects. You shall also ensure that you have a high-level understanding of all other major MEP projects and offer support and assistance when required. You shall also be responsible for maintaining and improving the quality and efficiency of the Mechanical Services design and post contract implementation offered by Harley Haddow. You shall have a supervisory role over junior engineering staff assigned to you and your projects and shall assist in their personal development both in their education and their technical experience.
You shall be expected to act as the lead consultant on projects providing M&E representation and input at key stages throughout the project to other members of the project team as well as ensuring that the M&E requirements are communicated and delivered within Harley Haddow.
The position demands excellent communication skills; you will be representing Harley Haddow through direct contact with clients and other design team members. You are expected to represent the company at meetings in both Mechanical and Mechanical Services disciplines.
You shall commence carrying out wider management duties as part of your role within the business. This will include the programming of work, managing your own and other workloads, ensuring critical deadlines are met, ensuring QA is undertaken swiftly and consistently, you will be the point of contact between the engineering staff and the senior management and will be expected to provide team updates as and when required.

Monitor and invoice project fees
Strategy setting and Concept Design as part of RIBA Stage 1, 2 & 3 Design Process.
Lead in the development of M&E Services strategies
Manage the production of scheme design drawings (from concept right through to detailed design) via the management of junior staff
Prepare outline M&E specification in BCIS format including environmental strategies.
Where appropriate lead in the preparation of the Stage 2 and 3 MEP Reports
Assist in the preparation of BCIS elemental M&E cost plans.
Understand and work within the commercial framework for projects.
Prepare and deliver project presentations to client teams
Detailed Design as part of RIBA Stage 4 production.
Lead and manage the delivery of Mechanical Services detail design.
Manage, plan and programme Mechanical detailed design process.
Supervise and plan workload for junior engineering staff on projects you are responsible for.
Ensure that Mechanical Services Detailed output meets quality requirements.
Provide conduit between design teams, clients and HH
Ensure project delivery meets deadlines and Client’s brief. This may include dealing with last minute changes etc but these should be professionally dealt with.

Actively develops the abilities of Assistant and Apprentice Engineers on the use of all software packages
Post Contract Implementation in line with RIBA Stage 5, 6 & 7
Represent Harley Haddow at meetings.
Manage post contract stage of project, including flow of information to maintain proposed contract works programme.
Monitor Mechanical Installation works against Mechanical Services Design.
Assist Project QS in cost control and final account settlement by offering technical advice
Ensure project closure and conclusion of all defects.
Carry out de-brief and report findings
Primary Responsibilities

To manage projects and junior personnel to ensure delivery dates are met
To manage Mechanical Engineering output to ensure that quality criteria are met
To provide technical support to junior engineers and technicians
To prepare Mechanical Services Scheme Design proposals
To deliver Mechanical Services detailed design/ production information.
Be actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the design office, and assist in improving efficiencies, programming, cost control and quality.
Develop and improve the engineering and management standards with Harley Haddow
To adhere to company quality, environment and H&S accredited standards as required for your role

Management and Commercial Duties
Provide assistance to TDs and Directors with programme management and change control
Provide assistance to TDs and Directors with fee bids and submissions
Run Organise and chair Mechanical team meetings reviewing workload/fees to feed into back to senior management meetings
Take a more holistic view of the office workload and costs
QA procedures
Ensure QA procedures are followed and documented
Ensure all work is QA checked before issue to external parties
Client Development
To ensure that repeat business is continued by excellent delivery and client relationships.
Develop own client base through existing and new contacts (clients/PMs/architects/QS/MCs)
Role Requirements
Qualifications
Degree qualified and incorporated/chartered status or equivalent, or working toward chartered status. Member of appropriate Institution.
Minimum Requirements
Been consistently and successfully demonstrating all of the requirements of the senior mechanical engineer role profile
Strong record in project management, delivery, and quality.
People skills and demonstrable man management and client facing skills.
Self-starter, capable of working with own initiative to provide solutions to engineering and management challenges
Hold a valid UK Driving Licence(preferable)
Be prepared to travel to meetings and projects, as necessary.
