Overview

Working as part of a team to maintain the track to the highest standard, ensuring compliance with statutory regulation and Health and Safety standards.

The postholder will assist in providing a safe working environment for all staff, stakeholders and contractors, placing integrity and welfare at the heart of every task carried out.

Hours: 40 per week (5/7 days variable)

Towcester Racecourse is a well-known racing and hospitality venue. Hosting live greyhound racing on and home to the English Greyhound Derby. The venue includes a large capacity restaurant, hospitality boxes, fast food and drink outlets. The venue is also expanding into diverse events such as concerts weddings and festivals. 2026 is a breakthrough year for Towcester Racecourse, with plans to grow existing products and offerings, introduce a staged return of Horses to our famous track, as well as launching a variety of new exciting products to a diversified audience.

Principal accountabilities and responsibilities

Track

Ensure the track surface is always safe for greyhounds
Uphold health and safety practices, and support Racing Office to ensure racecourse complies with GBGB rules and regulations
Facilitate good working relationship with all officials, trainers and kennel staff to facilitate smooth running race meetings
Ensure track and maintenance issues are raised with management immediately
Drive Hare and operate camera where required (full training will be given)

Maintenance

Ensure all grounds at Towcester Racecourse are maintained to the highest level and that public-facing spaces outside are always presentable to stakeholders, trainers and customers
Ensure all plant machinery (tractors and specialist equipment) required for race meetings and trial sessions is maintained constantly to the highest level, carrying out regular checks
Maintain the lawn areas and car parks, around the racecourse throughout the year
Operate relevant plant machinery (tractor/bowser) in line with HSE requirements
Clean and disinfect race kennels after racing and trial sessions

Welfare

Assist on track with greyhound safety at strategic points during a race
Pro-actively help colleagues work together to maintain the highest standard of care for the greyhounds
Prioritise greyhound welfare in all duties

Qualifications & Experience

Background in greyhound racing or sport preferred
Track maintenance and repair knowledge: Understanding of track systems, equipment, and maintenance procedures is advantageous
Computer literate (Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams etc)
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and ensure accuracy

Pay: Up to £27,976.00 per year
