Job Purpose
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving flexographic printing presses, converting equipment, and associated production machinery to ensure maximum equipment reliability, efficiency, and product quality. The role supports production by minimising downtime through preventative maintenance, rapid fault diagnosis, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on flexographic printing presses, converting machinery.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control system faults.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
- Maintain and service printing presses, slitters, rewinders, die-cutters, and other converting equipment.
- Install, commission, and modify production machinery as required.
- Ensure machinery is operating safely, efficiently, and within manufacturer specifications.
- Work closely with Engineering team to identify recurring issues and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Maintain critical spare parts inventory and recommend stock replenishment where necessary.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
- Assist with machinery upgrades, factory installations, and capital improvement projects.
- Provide technical support and guidance to production operators to promote autonomous maintenance practices.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within workshops and production areas.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification (Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-Skilled Engineering).
- Experience maintaining flexographic printing, converting, packaging, or similar high-speed manufacturing equipment.
- Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload under pressure.
Desirable
- Experience with PLC fault finding.
- Knowledge of servo drives, motion control systems, and automation.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- HNC/HND or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Experience within flexible packaging, labels, or paper converting industries.

Working Conditions
- Working within a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, inks, solvents, and adhesives.
- Occasional overtime and weekend working may be required to support production and planned maintenance activities.
Pay: £40,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
