Full job description

Sensory Breaks is seeking compassionate, reliable and motivated Community Support Workers to join our growing team. we are partially looking for someone who is able support morning calls from 7:30am-9am Monday to Friday.

You will provide individualised support to children and young people with additional needs within the community, helping them access meaningful activities, build confidence, and enjoy positive experiences outside of the home.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children with SEND, sensory processing differences, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities or emotional and behavioural needs, and who understands the importance of patience, consistency and empathy.

Support is delivered in a variety of community settings, including local parks, activity centres, libraries, leisure facilities, and during short respite or engagement sessions designed around the child’s needs and interests.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 or small-group support to children with additional needs in community settings
Support children to engage safely and positively in activities tailored to their sensory, emotional and developmental needs
Use sensory-aware and child-centred approaches to promote regulation, independence and confidence
Build trusting, positive relationships with children and their families
Observe, understand and respond appropriately to behaviour that may be linked to sensory needs or emotional regulation
Follow individual support plans, risk assessments and guidance provided
Maintain clear communication with families and the Sensory Breaks team
Ensure safeguarding, safety and wellbeing are prioritised at all times
Accurately record session notes and report any concerns in line with safeguarding procedures

Working Hours & Flexibility

Sessions take place primarily during evenings and weekends
Some flexibility is available around availability and session times
This role suits individuals looking for flexible work alongside other commitments, such as studies, family life or other employment

Who We’re Looking For

You may already have experience in:

SEND support, childcare, youth work or care roles
Supporting children with autism, sensory processing differences or additional needs
Education, play work, early years, psychology, social care or health-related roles

However, formal experience is not essential — we are equally interested in people with the right values, attitude and willingness to learn.

Reliable, trustworthy and professional
Ability to work independently in community settings
Strong communication skills
Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare

Training & Support

Full induction and ongoing training provided
Safeguarding training (Level 1 & 2) required (support provided if needed)
Sensory awareness and SEND-specific training provided or supported
Ongoing guidance, supervision and support from the Sensory Breaks team
