Full job description

This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant, to join our established team of 8.6 WTE Consultant Medical Microbiologists and 1.1 WTE Speciality Doctor. A Speciality Trainee, based in Cardiff, rotates to the service on a 6 monthly basis.

The Executive Board have approved investment into the service, which has a high organisational profile. The Consultant team has increased to 8.6 WTE within the past 3 years, with Community Antimicrobial Pharmacist and administrative support.

The clinical and laboratory Microbiology service has full UKAS ISO15189 accreditation and is networked to provide a comprehensive microbiology and infection control service.

The successful candidate will be based at the Royal Gwent Hospital for the regular duties of the Microbiology and Infection Control service (which will be shared and rotated between 9 Medical Microbiologists).

The post holder will attend meetings and ward visits at other sites within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

They will play an important role in the redesign of service provision in light of the Health Board’s Clinical Futures strategy, and the Welsh Government “Future Delivery of Pathology Services in Wales” document.

Together with colleagues, the successful candidate will provide a comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective clinical microbiology, virology and infection control service to all users of the service. They will lead in specified aspects of the microbiology and infection control service as discussed at periodic service reviews.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview
