Full job description

Senior Head Gardener / Team Leader

We are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable Senior Head Gardener / Team Leader to join our established team in North Devon.

This is a hands-on senior role for someone with extensive horticultural knowledge who is confident leading teams and taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of both high-end private gardens and estates and large-scale commercial grounds maintenance contracts.

The role will include:

Leading, supervising and organising teams on a daily basis.
Planning workloads and ensuring works are completed efficiently, on time and to a high standard.
Maintaining high-end private gardens, estates and commercial grounds.
Using extensive plant, shrub and tree knowledge to manage and maintain planting schemes.
Hedge cutting, pruning, planting, lawn care, border maintenance and all other aspects of horticulture.
Confidently operating professional grounds maintenance machinery and equipment.
Monitoring standards across sites and identifying any work that needs to be carried out.
Communicating professionally with clients, colleagues and management.
Supporting our landscaping and tree surgery teams when required.
Travelling to sites throughout Devon as part of the role.

Essential skills and experience:

Significant professional horticultural and grounds maintenance experience.
Excellent plant, shrub and tree knowledge.
Previous experience leading, supervising or managing a team.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple sites and workloads.
High standards of workmanship and excellent attention to detail.
Confident using professional grounds maintenance machinery.
Good communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and use initiative.
Full UK driving licence.

Desirable qualifications and experience:

Horticultural qualifications, certificates or formal education such as RHS, NVQ or equivalent.
PA1 and PA6 pesticide application certificates.
Trailer towing entitlement / experience.
Chainsaw qualifications.
Landscaping and/or tree surgery experience.

Salary: Competitive – dependent on experience and qualifications.
