Kennels & Cattery Assistant – Part Time Role
We are looking for a hardworking, caring and outdoorsy person to join our dedicated team helping care for dogs and cats enjoying their holidays with us.
This is a varied, active and hands-on role where no two days are the same. We are looking for somebody who genuinely loves animals, enjoys working outdoors, and is happy to get stuck into all aspects of kennel and cattery life.
We are open to both experienced applicants and trainee candidates looking to build a career in animal care.
THE ROLE
The day-to-day work in the kennels and cattery may include:
WALKING
Walking dogs of all sizes and energy levels in our secure paddocks, fields and forest areas, ensuring each dog receives appropriate exercise, stimulation and enrichment.
GROOMING
Brushing, bathing and general grooming of dogs and cats to help keep them comfortable, clean and happy during their stay.
CLEANING
Thorough cleaning and sterilising of kennels, catteries, exercise areas, food preparation spaces and communal areas to maintain the highest standards of hygiene and animal welfare.
FEEDING
Preparing and feeding breakfasts, lunches and dinners, including tailored feeding routines and administering simple medications where required.
ENRICHMENT & CARE
Providing tailored enrichment activities, one-to-one interaction, play sessions and food-based puzzles suited to each animal’s personality, confidence and activity level.
BEHAVIOUR & WELFARE
Monitoring the animals’ health, behaviour and wellbeing throughout their stay and ensuring they are safe, relaxed and enjoying their holiday with us.
MAINTENANCE & GENERAL DUTIES
Helping maintain the cleanliness, organisation and safety of all indoor and outdoor areas, as well as assisting with general day-to-day jobs around the site.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Elements of the role may also include reception-based duties such as welcoming customers, answering phone calls, responding to emails and helping provide excellent customer care.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We would ideally prefer applicants with either:
- Relevant professional experience working with dogs and/or cats
- AND/OR
- A Level 3 qualification in Animal Care & Welfare (or similar)
- However, we are also happy to consider trainee applicants with a genuine passion for animals and a willingness to learn.
Successful applicants should:
- Be reliable, caring and hardworking
- Be confident handling dogs of all sizes and cats of different temperaments
- Be able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Have good time management and communication skills
- Be willing to help with all aspects of the role, including cleaning and physical tasks
- Understand that animal care can be physically demanding and involves working outdoors in all weather conditions

Please note:
We are primarily looking for somebody available for approximately 1–3 days per week on a flexible rota basis, with additional hours sometimes available during busy periods and holidays.
This role could suit somebody looking for part-time work alongside studies, another job, animal care experience, or a flexible lifestyle role.
As we care for animals 365 days a year, some weekend and bank holiday availability is required on a shared rota basis, including limited Christmas and New Year cover.
Own transport is essential due to our rural location.
