Assistant Arboriculturist
Tetra Tech is looking for an arboriculturist to join our team of consultant arboriculturists and landscape architects in Shaping the Future. We work on a diverse range of projects including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects and large-scale renewable energy projects as well as commercial, residential, retail, leisure and major infrastructure developments. Our renewables work includes solar, offshore and onshore wind, international interconnector and energy storage projects.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
Working closely with colleagues in the Landscape Team and multi-disciplinary colleagues you’ll be solving problems that deliver successful project outcomes for our clients across a wide range of sectors throughout the UK.
The work includes site and desk-based work and typically includes:
Attending sites and conducting tree surveys in accordance with BS5837 using tablet-based data capture software
With support and guidance of colleagues, writing and collating tree related reports, schedules and plans including Tree Surveys, Impact Assessments (AIA) and Method Statements (AMS)
Working closely with arboriculture colleagues, multi-disciplinary colleagues and project teams to help deliver successful project outcomes
Your Impact in This Position
In the short term, you’ll establish a good working relationship with colleagues in the Arboriculture and Landscape Team, and other disciplines within the office. You will have the opportunity to immediately contribute to project delivery and fee earning work supporting projects throughout the UK. You will also have the opportunity to project manage your own projects appropriate to your level of experience.
Over the medium term, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your career with greater responsibility for project management of larger arboriculture projects and developing client relationships that support a fulfilling career and contribute to profitable project outcomes. Working on multi-disciplinary projects you will also be able to develop working relationships with colleagues in other disciplines to support bids and secure new commissions.
In the long term, subject to performance, you’ll have the opportunity to continue to develop your career further with the potential to move into management roles within the Arboriculture and Landscape Team.
Tree Surveys
The position requires an enthusiastic arboriculturist who, with the support of colleagues, can competently undertake tree surveys in accordance with BS 5837 across a wide range of sectors.
AutoCAD and associated Software
The role requires experience of, or an aptitude and enthusiasm to use, computer tablets to capture survey data. Consequently, you will need to have an understanding of AutoCAD and/ or tree survey related software such as AxciScape. Training will be provided for AxciScape software, but you will ideally have some knowledge and experience of CAD software.
Project Management and Organisational Skills
Reflecting the level of experience, the position will have responsibility for small to medium sized projects under the direction of a more senior team member. Applicants will need to have good organisational and project management skills.
Qualifications & Experience
Understanding of BS5837:2012 ‘Trees in Relation to Design, Demolition and Construction to Construction – Recommendations’
Good tree identification
Experience of conducting tree surveys and preparing reports including, with guidance from colleagues, Impact Assessments (AIA) and Method Statements (AMS)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and CAD and / or similar tree related software
Able to work independently to meet project deadlines
We work throughout the UK so you will need to be able to commit to regular travel, throughout the country, with the potential for occasional over nights stays
A valid driving licence is essential
Working Environment
The position involves a mix of site and office-based work with the expectation that a higher proportion will be on site. Hybrid working arrangements are offered with an expectation (if not otherwise out on site) to be in the office at least 1-2 days per week.
