HGV Class 2 Driver
Reports to: Transport Manager / Transport Planner
Purpose: HGV Class 2 Driver role is to safely and efficiently transport goods between depots, distribution centres, and customer locations while ensuring compliance with all road transport regulations and company policies. The driver is responsible for operating rigid vehicles, maintaining high standards of safety, completing deliveries on time, and ensuring accurate documentation. The role supports the smooth running of the supply chain by delivering goods reliably while providing professional customer service and representing the company positively on the road.
Shift Patterns:
· Variable hours, Monday to Friday
· Early starts maybe required
· Weekend work to meet business demands
Responsibilities:
· Safely operate HGV Class 2 (Category C) vehicles in line with company and legal requirements.
· Complete daily vehicle walk-around checks and report any defects promptly.
· Ensure all loads are safely secured, balanced, and transported correctly.
· Adhere to planned routes and delivery schedules, reporting delays as necessary.
· Comply with UK driving legislation including drivers’ hours, tachograph rules, and the working time directive
· Accurately complete local deliveries to businesses and residential properties and ensure the completion of documentation, such as POD / ePOD, and defect reports.
· Maintain professional communication with transport planners, warehouse staff, and customers.
· Always deliver a courteous service and professional service.
· Ensure goods are handled carefully to prevent damage during loading, transit, and unloading.
· Follow all health and safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
· Maintain vehicle cleanliness and basic daily upkeep.
· Report accidents, incidents, breakdowns or compliance issues immediately.
Experience
· Previous experience as an HGV Class 2 (Category C) driver, ideally within a Multi-drop Pallet Network environment.
· A strong understanding of UK driver hours regulations, tachograph use, and Working Time Directive requirements.
· Proven experience working to delivery schedules while maintaining safety and compliance.
· Confident use of tachograph systems and delivery documentation (POD/ePOD)
· Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with transport and warehouse teams.
Licence & Compliance Requirements
· Valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) Licence
· Valid Driver CPC qualification
· Digital Tachograph
· ADR qualification would be preferred but not essential
Pay: £40,835.00 per year
