At McLaren Racing, we’re not just here to try to take the chequered flag. We’re here to excite our fans, inspire our people and deliver for our partners. And we’re also committed to evolving our sport, our industry, and our technology, too
We have an incredible history in endurance racing, securing a legendary 1995 win at Le Mans at the first attempt and are the only team to have won the prestigious Triple Crown: winning the Monaco GP, the Indy 500 and the 24hr Le Mans.
From 2027, we’ll once again be the only team in the history of motorsports to be competing in the top three racing series, creating clear competitive and commercial advantage.
And we’re excited and ready to now start building our McLaren Endurance Racing team.
Purpose of the Role
-
To create, develop and correlate high fidelity vehicle dynamics models and simulations of all aspects of the car to ensure we are accurately capturing and are able to optimise their key behaviours in both offline and driver in the loop simulations.
-
To support the deployment of these simulations across our various tools and platforms and their interaction with connected systems.
-
To support both development and performance testing sessions in the DiL simulator.
-
To develop simulation workflow methodologies to maximise the value we deliver in the most efficient way.
-
To perform simulation and analysis studies to optimise car performance for each race and over the longer term.
-
To support events as part of the Mission Control team monitoring vehicle performance in real time.
Principal Accountabilities
-
To support the development and optimisation of car performance through:
-
The delivery of high-fidelity vehicle models that are well corelated and integrated within the car simulation toolchain.
-
Development of the simulations that exercise these models to improve accuracy, relevance and performance.
-
Maintenance of our car and track parameter database to capture new data / components.
-
Creating or developing tools to improve the simulation and analysis workflow and content.
-
Supporting some of our DiL simulator sessions by either managing the test program and/or operating the rig.
-
Conducting pre-event and general performance simulation studies that explore and optimise chassis and powertrain performance across the season.
-
Mission control based event support, using live analysis of on-track running to optimise chassis and powertrain exploitation through the race weekend
-
Producing high quality analysis during and post event to understand changes made to our car and give insight into our absolute and relative performance.
-
Completing studies and analysis within challenging timeframes and always presented in a way that is easily acted on by the targeted customer.
Role Dimensions
-
This role sits within the Vehicle Performance group and reports directly to Director, Vehicle Performance.
-
It will require close collaboration with the rest of the Vehicle Performance team as well as the Software, Systems and Trackside Engineering groups.
-
Some liaison with external model and/or simulation tool providers will be required.
-
This role will require some weekend work to support WEC race and test events from MTC.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a relevant Engineering or Mathematics discipline essential.
-
Strong analytical skills underpinned by a data driven approach.
-
Proven experience in a simulation role in high-level Motorsport.
-
Thorough understanding of how a car's systems interact to affect performance.
-
Previous exposure to track/race/simulator environment.
-
Skilled in programming languages like Python, C++, or MATLAB/Simulink for data processing and tool development.
-
Experience with the McLaren Applied toolset for vehicle and control code simulation would be advantageous (MCT, System Monitor, ATLAS, vTAG-PC).
Personal Attributes
-
An ability to work effectively and calmly under pressure.
-
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to resolve complex technical challenges quickly.
-
A strong motivation to drive performance, through detailed analysis and simulation work
-
First class written and oral communication skills.
-
High attention to detail and an ability to take an unbiased approach to all tasks.
-
A team player with a positive outlook and a ‘can do’ attitude.
-
Proven capability to collaborate across functions.
-
Adaptability to the demanding workload and flexibility to support race weekends as required.
-
Ability to stay updated with rapidly advancing technology and implement new solutions.
What can McLaren offer?
