The Research & Innovation Department is offering an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Midwife on a secondment or fixed-term basis for 8 months. This research role will primarily support Obstetrics & Gynaecology National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) studies, while also contributing to other research areas in line with service needs.

The Research Midwife role is pivotal in ensuring the safe, effective, and timely delivery of research studies, ultimately improving patient outcomes and experiences. You will play a key role in supporting participants, maintaining study protocols, and contributing to high standards of research governance.
Identify, screen, discuss and recruit potential participants into appropriate studies.
Support the informed consent process, ensuring the participant is fully informed prior to participation in MHRA-approved clinical trials.
Co-ordinate and carry out participant visits in accordance with study protocols, including co-ordinating special tests in other departments, collection of data, coding, data entry, and patient support.
Carry out clinical procedures and treatment interventions using pre-determined protocols, including clinical examination of patients and recording of clinical data.
Carry out the collection, processing and shipping of biological specimens according
to protocols, including venepuncture, venous cannulation, administering of intra- venous (where appropriate) and recording vital signs.
Ensure that the patient’s health and safety are paramount in all procedures that take place for trial purposes. place for trial purposes.
Report and record any adverse events as dictated by Trust, Sponsor or Network
protocols
Ensure clinical and research documentation and record keeping is completed
accurately and efficiently in accordance with NMC and EU Directive (ICH GCP)
Guidelines.
Ensure data security in line with Data Protection Act 2018.
Maintain regular contact with the Senior Midwife/Trust Research Manager for professional support and guidance.
Have sufficient computer skills for the handling and management of computerised data.
