The Role
This is much more than a sales position.
It's a varied role combining technical engineering, business development, project management and customer relationship management.
No two days are the same.
One day you may be visiting customers to discuss future maintenance programmes or carrying out surveys on industrial pumping equipment. Another day you could be working alongside our workshop team to scope refurbishment projects, preparing quotations and technical reports, following up new business opportunities or attending an industry exhibition to represent Fenflow.
You'll enjoy a high level of autonomy, managing your own diary, planning customer visits and taking ownership of projects while working closely with our workshop, engineers and Directors.
We're looking for someone who enjoys getting out to meet customers, understands engineering and can build long-term partnerships based on trust, technical knowledge and excellent service.
Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development
- Develop new business opportunities across industrial, manufacturing, utilities, water and drainage sectors.
- Build long-term relationships with both new and existing customers.
- Generate new enquiries through networking, prospecting, referrals and customer visits.
- Identify opportunities for maintenance contracts, repairs, refurbishments and installations.
- Achieve agreed sales and growth objectives.
Customer Visits & Site Surveys
- Visit customer sites to understand operational requirements.
- Carry out surveys and inspections of pumps, valves and associated equipment.
- Investigate equipment failures and recommend engineering solutions.
- Develop strong working relationships with customers.
- Represent Fenflow professionally at all times.
Technical Sales
- Prepare accurate quotations for repairs, refurbishments, upgrades and new installations.
- Produce technical reports and recommendations.
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Follow quotations through to successful order placement.
Project Management
- Manage customer projects from enquiry through to completion.
- Coordinate with engineers, workshop staff, suppliers and customers.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
- Monitor project progress and keep customers informed throughout.
- Resolve technical and commercial issues as they arise.
Customer Support
- Provide technical advice on pumps, valves and mechanical systems.
- Support customers with maintenance planning and equipment upgrades.
- Develop long-term customer partnerships through outstanding service.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
Administration & Business Support
- Maintain accurate CRM records and sales pipeline updates.
- Prepare quotations, reports and project documentation.
- Produce sales forecasts and activity reports.
- Support tender submissions where required.
- Attend exhibitions, networking events and trade shows.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who combines strong engineering knowledge with excellent commercial awareness and relationship-building skills.
You'll be comfortable managing multiple projects, making decisions independently and working closely with customers and colleagues alike.
Essential
- Minimum 3 years' experience in technical engineering sales.
- Experience within pumps, valves, or mechanical engineering.
- Project management experience.
- Experience preparing technical quotations.
- Strong customer relationship management skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Good commercial awareness.
- Self-motivated with excellent organisational skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
Desirable
- Mechanical Engineering qualification (HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent experience).
- Knowledge of industrial pumps and pumping systems.
- Valve or Pump experience.
- Water, utilities, manufacturing or drainage industry experience.
- Tender preparation experience.
- Understanding of CDM Regulations.
- Knowledge of electric motors and rotating equipment.

Important Information
This is not a hybrid or remote position.
The successful candidate will be based from our office in Spalding, Lincolnshire, with regular travel to customer sites.
