Job Title: Apprentice Estimator
Location: Kettering, Northamptonshire
Salary: To £16,500
Role Summary
As an Apprentice Estimator with IGL, you would be supporting the Estimating team with a range of administrative, communication, and technical tasks. You will assist with managing information, maintaining data accuracy, and preparing documentation, while developing knowledge of estimating processes.
With training and support, you will also include assisting in the preparation of multi-utility drawings, studies, and cost models, working towards meeting project requirements and agreed timescales in line with company processes and standards.
The Role:
Key Responsibilities

Undertake general administrative duties including scanning, photocopying, filing, and record keeping

Answer incoming calls, take messages, and respond to basic enquiries

Assist in reviewing new enquiries and responding to email queries within level of competence, escalating where required

Support the review of quote requirements and request additional information when needed

Assist in reviewing asset plans and developers’ technical drawings

Enter and maintain accurate data using internal systems

Comply with company processes, procedures, and standards
Estimating & Technical Support (Training Provided)

Support the review of electricity connection plans and offer letters
-
Assist in reviewing water terms and technical plans
-
Learn to support water, gas, and electricity network studies
-
Assist in the production of utility route plans and tender designs

Support the preparation of multi-utility cost models and proposal letters

Assist with re-quotes and variations under supervision
Communication & Team Working

Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders in a professional manner

Provide regular updates to the Estimating Team Leader / Manager on progress against priorities

Maintain organised electronic records to ensure documentation is accessible
General

Continuously develop skills and knowledge as part of the apprenticeship programme

Undertake additional duties as required in line with the needs of the business

Experience / Knowledge

Interest in utilities, construction, or engineering sectors (desirable)

Awareness of tendering processes or technical environments (desirable)

Familiarity with AutoCAD (beneficial but not essential)
Education / Qualifications

GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English

Relevant technical or utility-related qualifications (desirable but not essential)
