About Public Health in Tameside
The Public Health Team plays a central role in improving population health and reducing health inequalities across Tameside. Working alongside Council services; the NHS and healthcare services; education settings; voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations; and local residents; we tackle some of the borough's most significant health challenges. Alongside our statutory public health responsibilities, we lead a diverse portfolio including the Live Well programme, domestic abuse and gender-based violence services, leisure services, and our in-house health improvement service, enabling us to influence a wide range of factors affecting health and wellbeing and deliver a truly whole-system approach to improving outcomes.
We are a highly regarded and influential team with strong relationships across Greater Manchester and beyond, working closely with local, regional and national partners. Our dedicated community engagement function ensures local voices shape priorities and decisions, while our strong focus on evidence and intelligence helps us target action where it can have the greatest impact. Through collaboration, innovation and continuous learning, we are helping to deliver the shared ambitions of the Council.
Our team culture is supportive, trusted, and optimistic. Colleagues value the strong team ethos, variety of work and opportunities for continuing professional development, while thriving in an environment where they can influence change and make a meaningful difference to local communities.
