Batson Groundcare Ltd are looking for an experienced, motivated and professional Grounds Maintenance Team Leader based in and around Tow Law, County Durham to join our growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Grounds Maintenance Operative looking to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of operatives across a variety of commercial and public sector sites, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to the high standards expected by Batson Groundcare Ltd.
Grounds Maintenance Duties Include:
- Grass Cutting
- Hedge Cutting
- Strimming
- Weeding
- Application of Herbicides
- Edging
- Moss Removal
- Shrub Border Maintenance
- Litter Picking
- Minor Vegetation Removal Works
- Leaf Clearance
- General Site Maintenance and Tidy Up
Team Leader Responsibilities:
- Leading and supervising a team of Grounds Maintenance Operatives.
- Allocating daily tasks and ensuring work programmes are completed on time.
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship across all contracts.
- Conducting daily vehicle, machinery and equipment checks.
- Ensuring compliance with company Health & Safety procedures.
- Reporting site hazards, accidents, near misses and operational issues.
- Liaising professionally with clients, residents and members of the public.
- Monitoring staff performance and providing guidance and support where required.
- Completing site reports, job sheets and photographic records using company systems.
- Supporting training and development of team members.
- Assisting management with planning and organising workloads.
Experience:
The successful candidate will have extensive grounds maintenance experience and be confident operating a wide range of horticultural machinery and equipment.
Previous supervisory or team leader experience within grounds maintenance, landscaping, horticulture or a similar outdoor environment would be advantageous.
Essential Skills:
- Minimum 5 years Grounds Maintenance experience.
- Previous Team Leader or Supervisory experience preferred.
- Competent using grounds maintenance plant and machinery.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Ability to motivate and manage a small team.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- Enhanced DBS Certificate (or willingness to obtain one through Batson Groundcare Ltd).
Desirable Qualifications:
- PA1 & PA6 Herbicide Certificates.
- Trailer Towing Licence.
- First Aid at Work Qualification.
- LANTRA or NPTC qualifications.
- Experience working on local authority or commercial contracts.

Working Hours:
40–45 hours per week
Monday to Friday
Overtime Rates:
- Time & ¼ – Weekdays (Anything over 40 hours)
- Time & ½ – Weekends
Pay: £30,160.00-£33,930.00 per year
