Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and customer-focused Coffee Shop Manager to lead the daily operations of our busy café at The Hive London.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the coffee shop, including team leadership, customer experience, operational standards, stock control, and financial performance. This role requires a hands-on manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment, leads by example, and is passionate about creating a positive atmosphere for both customers and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the coffee shop, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, food safety, and hygiene throughout the café.
- Ensure all opening and closing procedures are completed correctly.
- Monitor equipment and facilities, reporting maintenance issues as required.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and brand standards.
Team Leadership
- Recruit, train, supervise, and develop café team members.
- Create and manage staff rotas to ensure effective coverage during trading hours.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching and support to staff.
- Motivate and inspire the team to deliver excellent customer service and operational performance.
- Foster a positive, professional, and inclusive working environment.
Customer Experience
- Deliver and maintain exceptional customer service standards.
- Ensure customers receive a warm welcome and outstanding service at all times.
- Handle customer enquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Build strong relationships with regular customers and contribute to a welcoming community atmosphere.
Coffee Shop & Product Standards
- Ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality Starbucks® beverages and food offerings.
- Maintain product quality, presentation, and availability throughout service periods.
- Support staff training in coffee preparation, food handling, and customer service standards.
- Monitor waste and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
Stock & Supplier Management
- Manage stock levels and place orders with approved suppliers.
- Conduct regular stock takes and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Ensure products are stored, rotated, and handled in accordance with food safety standards.
- Minimise waste and control costs while maintaining product availability.
Financial Performance
- Monitor daily sales, labour costs, and operational expenses.
- Support the achievement of sales and profitability targets.
- Manage cash handling procedures and daily reconciliations.
- Prepare reports and provide operational updates to senior management.
- Identify opportunities to increase revenue and improve customer engagement.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all food hygiene, health and safety, and relevant licensing regulations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and maintain a safe environment for staff and customers.
- Ensure all staff complete required training and adhere to company procedures.
- Maintain all records and documentation required for compliance purposes.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous management experience within a busy coffee shop, café, hospitality, leisure, or retail environment.
- Experience managing teams in a fast-paced, high-volume customer-facing operation.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
- Proven experience managing staff rotas, stock control, and operational performance.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work flexibly, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays when required.
Desirable
- Experience working with recognised coffee brands, including Starbucks.
- Barista experience and a passion for coffee and hospitality.
- Food Safety Level 2 Certificate or higher.
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience delivering sales growth and achieving business targets.

Working Hours
This is a full-time position working a usual schedule of Tuesday and Thursday through Sunday, with Mondays and Wednesdays designated as days off. However, flexibility to work varying shift patterns, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays, is required to meet the needs of the business.
