The Role
We are looking for a skilled Wood Veneer Specialist / Preparer to join our production team. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end preparation and application of natural wood veneers for bespoke furniture and architectural joinery projects.
You will combine an artisan eye for detail with strong technical expertise, working with delicate materials and specialist workshop machinery to deliver high-quality veneered finishes.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect and select wood flitches, identifying grain patterns, colour consistency, and species characteristics.
Prepare, cut, trim, and match veneers using industrial guillotines and splicing equipment.
Produce seamless layons using techniques such as book-matching, slip-matching, and marquetry.
Apply veneers to substrates including MDF and plywood using hot or cold press systems.
Ensure correct glue application and pressing techniques to maintain quality and prevent defects such as bleed-through.
Read and interpret technical drawings, architectural specifications, and cutting lists accurately.
Sand, repair, and finish veneered surfaces to a high standard.
Carry out routine maintenance and safe operation of workshop machinery and equipment.
Maintain excellent health and safety practices within the workshop environment, including COSHH, PPE, and LEV procedures.
About You
To be considered for this position, you will need to demonstrate:
Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in veneer preparation, high-end cabinet making, or a similar woodworking environment.
Proven experience operating veneer guillotines, stitching/splicing equipment, and veneer press lines.
Strong attention to detail with an excellent eye for colour matching and grain alignment.
Confident interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
Safety conscious with a good understanding of workshop health and safety requirements.
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Wood Occupations or Furniture Making is preferred, although equivalent hands-on experience will also be considered.
