Altrad are seeking an experienced and technically capable Lifting Engineer to support the safe and effective planning, coordination and delivery of lifting activities within the MEH scope on Hinkley Point C.
This role will be based at Hinkley Point C on a permanent basis and will work closely with the Planning Team and Lifting Lead to ensure lifting activities and associated preparation works are prioritised and delivered in accordance with the programme. The role will be responsible for developing lift plans, coordinating lifting operations, ensuring appropriate lifting equipment and accessories are selected and examined, and maintaining compliance with relevant legislation, standards, Codes of Practice and NNB lifting requirements within a highly regulated nuclear environment.
Key Deliverables / Accountabilities:
- Work closely with the Planning Team to ensure lifting activities and associated preparation works are appropriately prioritised in line with the delivery schedule.
- Develop and maintain processes and procedures to effectively control MEHA lifting activities.
- Develop lift plans in accordance with the NNB Management of Lifting Operations Standard.
- Ensure lifting equipment and lifting accessories have been thoroughly examined and are suitable for the intended operation.
- Select appropriate lifting accessories, including suitable methods of attachment to the load and protection measures to prevent damage.
- Brief lifting and rigging supervision on planned lifting operations, ensuring the safe system of work detailed within the lift plan is fully understood.
- Handover approved lift plans to the Lift/Rigging Supervisor for execution.
- Plan and coordinate resources to ensure an appropriately competent Lift/Rigging Supervisor is designated to direct personnel and ensure lifting operations are carried out in accordance with the approved lift plan.
- Investigate and assess hazards within the lifting operating area prior to and during planned activities.
- Liaise with relevant personnel, authorities and stakeholders to identify and overcome hazards, incorporating required corrective actions and special measures into the safe system of work.
- Produce and maintain lifting procedures, lifting coordination plans, lifting introduction studies and lift plans.
- Ensure all lifting activities undertaken within the MEH scope comply with applicable legislation, standards, Codes of Practice and the NNB lifting standard.
- Promote and maintain high standards of health and safety through effective planning, supervision and site inspections.
- Carry out site inspections to ensure safety requirements and rules are being implemented and support a positive Nuclear Safety Culture.
- Support the Lifting Lead in ensuring compliance with all nuclear safety and site licence requirements.
- Support the Lifting Lead with the timely preparation and production of weekly and monthly lifting reports for upward review.
- Support the Lifting Lead in ensuring sufficient resources are available to meet organisational requirements and the delivery schedule.
- Support the Lifting Lead in ensuring the project is delivered safely, on time, to budget and to the required quality standards, in accordance with HPC requirements.
- Work collaboratively with construction, engineering, planning and lifting teams to ensure lifting activities are integrated effectively into the wider construction programme.
Key Requirements / Qualifications:
- CPCS A61 Appointed Person – Competent Operator (Blue Card).
- NVQ Level 3 ACE Card qualification in steel erecting and/or moving loads.
- ECITB Appointed Person Moving Loads qualification with TAP01.
- IOSH Managing Safely.
- Proven experience in lift planning using mobile, crawler and tower cranes.
- Proven experience in planning rigging and complex lifting operations.
- Proficient in AutoCAD.
- Proven experience within the nuclear power sector is preferred.
- Experience working on major construction or engineering projects.
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate lifting teams and operate effectively in a Team Lead capacity.
- Experience working within Joint Venture environments is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of lifting operations, safe systems of work, lifting accessories and relevant industry standards.
- Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with supervisors, construction teams, planners and other project stakeholders.
