A Career as Unique as You Are

We are looking for an experienced and driven HR Advisor to join our dynamic Human Resources team based in our Glasgow Head Office.

Here is How We See Your Role:

Providing advice and guidance to employees on all employment-related matters, developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders.
Supporting business stakeholders with all escalated matters, identifying high-risk cases promptly and ensuring appropriate escalation to the HR Director where required.
Delivering effective coaching and development to line managers resulting in a positive impact on business performance, preventing recurring issues, and supporting a high-performance culture.
Managing all employee relations cases from initial notification to satisfactory resolution, including acting as the first point of contact, providing advice, drafting correspondence, overseeing administration, and ensuring appropriate approvals are obtained.
Proactively managing both long-term and short-term absence cases in line with attendance processes, including Occupational Health referrals and supporting timely, effective interventions to minimise absence.
Managing performance issues proactively, supporting early informal resolutions and formal processes where required.
Lead by example, consistently demonstrating excellent behaviours, upholding company image, and living the Laings values and Way of Working.
Delivering and supporting key HR processes including induction, job design and evaluation, recruitment and selection, learning and development activities, workforce planning, and sponsorship processes for non-UK nationals.
Maintaining accurate HR systems, case management tools, and employee records, working closely with Payroll to ensure data accuracy and timely resolution of queries.
Developing, reviewing and maintaining HR policies, procedures, and documentation in line with employment law, while supporting equality, diversity and inclusion, managing risk, and contributing to projects and continuous improvement initiatives

The Ideal Person We are Looking For:

CIPD Level 5 qualified, or equivalent education in Business, HR Management, or demonstrable capability through relevant qualifications and experience.
Minimum of 5 years’ HR experience with a strong background in employee relations, attendance management, and performance management, including up to termination of employment.
Demonstrates expertise across the full employment lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee support, and working arrangements.
Proven experience in planning and managing organisational change, alongside policy development, research, and ensuring documentation is aligned and compliant with employment law.
Strong ability to assess and manage risk, escalating appropriately and supporting ongoing risk management processes.
Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt style, build relationships, and convey information clearly and effectively.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess situations, gather multiple perspectives, and identify key issues.
Highly organised and flexible team player, able to prioritise and manage multiple workloads effectively, work under pressure, and operate both independently and collaboratively across different environments (remote, office, or store).
Demonstrates a proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement, embracing change, contributing to projects, and anticipating future business and workforce needs, with up-to-date industry knowledge and understanding of best practice.
Maintains a high level of professionalism, including discretion and confidentiality, resilience in handling complex and sensitive situations, and the ability to take appropriate action to minimise or mitigate impact.
