Starting salary: £34,721 pro rata, per year
Contract type: Permanent
Grade: 3
Location: Stirling Castle
Working Hours: 21 hours per we ek, 3 days out of 7, including weekends and public holidays
Interviews: To be held in person at Stirling Castle week commencing 6 July 2026

As Security and Control Deputy Manager at Stirling Castle, you’ll take on a varied and rewarding role. Based onsite within the Admissions team, you’ll help shape unforgettable visitor experiences at one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks, while also leading on-site security.

In this front-line position, you’ll support and manage a dedicated team of admissions staff, ensuring smooth daily operations, excellent visitor service, and efficient ticketing. You’ll also act as the main point of contact for our Physical Security team at head office and with Police Scotland. A key part of your role will be working closely with the Stirling Castle management team to make sure we meet all safety, security and colleague wellbeing standards, creating a safe, welcoming environment for both staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities of this role

Lead on all aspects of security at Stirling Castle and act as main liaison with key partners including the HES physical security team and Police Scotland.
Provide leadership, development and direction to the admissions team to oversee the day to day running of the car park, Front of House and ticketing to ensure that the site meets and exceeds its key performance targets.
Support the HES Stirling Castle management team to ensure compliance with all aspects of health, safety, security and colleague wellbeing in relation to operations across the castle.
Lead by example in your interactions with visitors and colleagues to encourage best practice among your team.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and your team to maximise ASVA quality assurance star grading. Ensure mystery visit key performance indicators are met and exceeded.
Undertake Duty Manager shifts at Stirling Castle ensuring adequate management cover for the site as part of a rota.
Work closely with the other Supervisors and Managers at the site to ensure that the team runs efficiently and information is communicated effectively.
Liaise with other onsite teams including Conservation team, Mitie, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum and Benugo to ensure delivery of a first-class visitor experience.
Attend meetings relevant to the post and produce reports and updates required.
Continually review staffing levels and priorities to ensure that all key areas of the site operation are delivered safely and efficiently.
Work with colleagues from other directorates within HES to deliver the successful operation of the castle and support the wider work of HES.
Develop and deliver training to colleagues on a range of topics, including safety, security and visitor experience.
Ensure the team works proactively in directing visitor and vehicular access and managing this around other activities on site.
Build and maintain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners relating to the Visitor and Community operations within the region including our Conservation colleagues. Manage working relationships with stakeholder groups assigned to the role.

Key requirements of the role:

Essential:

Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to quickly recognise customers’ needs and be proactive in addressing these and the ability to role model excellent customer service
Experience of working in a fast-paced, busy environment
Proven track record of people management skills including coaching and experience supporting a team to deliver their goals
Experience of collaborative working across different departments/business areas
Knowledge of wider national security context and best practice
Strong knowledge of IT packages (including Word, Excel and Outlook)
Complaint handling experience and ability to positively deal with visitor issues escalated from team members
Experience developing and delivering training courses on a range of topics relevant to the business
Ability to work as part of a team
