The role:
The West of Scotland Safe Haven is a service at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde providing secure access to pseudonymised NHS health datasets as well as support for clinical trials.
Working closely with the West of Scotland (WoS) Safe Haven team and clinical trial delivery teams, you will have responsibility for supporting data-driven clinical trials through the interrogation of NHSGGC held electronic health record (EHR) data.
The post includes investigating highly complex enquiries, providing assistance and advice as required and contributing to clinical research, data reporting and providing clinical/strategic/business planning advice.
All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

You will be based at ICE Building within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
Key responsibilities:
You will lead on the design of clinical trial cohorts and be responsible for producing accurate and timely screening lists to support participant recruitment and screening processes. Acting as a central point of expertise for clinical trial support within the WoS Safe Haven, you will oversee the information requirements associated with these activities and ensure that data is effectively managed and utilised.
A key aspect of the role involves improving the utility of data held within the WoS Safe Haven by identifying and addressing data quality and compatibility issues. You will also be responsible for producing and providing high-quality data extract files to support clinical trials activity.
Working collaboratively within NHSGGC Research and Innovation (R&I), you will contribute to fostering a culture of continuous learning, ensuring that you and colleagues remain knowledgeable across relevant areas of R&I activity. You will support the WoS Safe Haven Manager and Data Managers in developing and implementing data collection and curation strategies, enhancing the use of clinical information for data-driven research and clinical trials.
In addition, you will take responsibility for adapting and supporting information systems to meet the needs of users, including both internal and external researchers undertaking clinical trials or research within NHSGGC. This will include making system enhancements, such as incorporating new data items, to ensure that systems remain fit for purpose and responsive to evolving research requirements.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Degree with a high numerical and statistical content
- Skills gained through a mixture of internal and external formal training, e.g. graduate diploma qualification

Relevant experience of Information Management in a Health Care environment
- Specialist knowledge of the organisation’s information requirements

Highly developed IT and information analysis skills with an in-depth specialist knowledge and experience of application of NHS data definitions, information standards and policies is essential

You should have a theoretical knowledge base and practical experience of managing a skills based staff.

Effective and confident communication skills are required to present, advise and instruct analysis, procedures and standards to a senior audience.
