Job Purpose:
To support, oversee and continually improve the quality of electrical and Solar PV installation works across Correct Contract Services, ensuring all installations are completed safely, compliantly and to the highest technical standards.
The role is responsible for delivering strategically planned, risk-based auditing, whilst providing structured coaching, mentoring and technical development to employed, self-employed and subcontracted Solar PV installation engineers.
A key objective of the role is to raise technical competence across the business, promoting a consistent right-first-time culture and reducing installation defects through proactive support rather than reactive correction.
The Quality Assurance Engineer will provide both remote and on-site technical guidance to ensure electrical and renewable installations are delivered in accordance with statutory requirements, industry best practice and company procedures, including compliance with MCS, BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations), Building Regulations, PAS 2030/2035, the Electricity at Work Regulations and other applicable certification schemes.
The role will actively support the Electrical Qualifying Supervisor (QS) function and contribute to maintaining certification and technical compliance across all electrical workstreams. This includes supporting Solar PV systems, battery storage, renewable technologies and associated monitoring and control systems.
Working closely with Operational Managers, Designers, Surveyors, Technical Supervisors, Compliance and Business Governance teams, the role will identify trends, improve technical standards, develop engineers through structured mentoring and support continual improvement across the business.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Minimum five years' experience within electrical installation, Solar PV or renewable technologies.
- Demonstrable experience mentoring, coaching and developing electrical engineers.
- Strong knowledge of BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations), inspection, testing and certification.
- Extensive experience installing and commissioning Solar PV systems.
- Excellent understanding of MCS requirements and quality standards.
- Experience supporting or undertaking the Qualifying Supervisor (QS) role is desirable.
- Strong understanding of Building Regulations, Electricity at Work Regulations and associated industry guidance.
- Experience of technical auditing, inspection and quality assurance within operational environments.
- Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working within domestic social housing and occupied properties.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to coach engineers at all experience levels.
- Competent using Microsoft Office, PDA systems and electronic job management software.
- SMSTS (or willingness to obtain).
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent.
- AM2
- City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent
- Current ECS Gold Card
- Level 3 Award in the Design, Installation and Commissioning of Solar Photovoltaic Systems (or equivalent)
- Battery Storage qualification
- Internal Auditor qualification
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver a structured programme of cyclical, planned and risk-based technical audits across
Solar PV and electrical installations, covering both work in progress and completed installations.
- Undertake targeted and random audits of employed engineers and subcontractors based upon
technical risk, compliance performance and customer outcomes.
- Complete periodic (e.g. six-monthly) competency assessments of all Solar PV installation engineers to verify technical competence, workmanship and compliance with company standards.
- Carry out desktop technical audits of installation records, commissioning documentation, electrical certification, photographic evidence and MCS compliance records.
- Support the onboarding of new engineers by delivering structured technical inductions covering company procedures, installation standards, PDA systems, documentation requirements and quality expectations.
- Develop and deliver structured coaching, mentoring and upskilling programmes for existing engineers to improve technical competence, confidence and installation consistency.
- Provide practical on-site coaching during live installations, demonstrating best practice installation techniques and promoting continual improvement.
- Deliver technical toolbox talks, workshops and refresher training sessions on electrical safety, Solar PV installation standards, MCS/PAS requirements, product updates and lessons learned.
- Provide remote technical support to engineers, supervisors, designers and operational management on installation queries, fault finding and compliance matters.
- Act as the technical subject matter expert for Solar PV installations, electrical systems, battery storage and associated renewable technologies.
- Support the Electrical Qualifying Supervisor (QS) function by undertaking technical reviews, installation sampling and compliance monitoring to maintain scheme requirements.
- Support the preparation for external MCS, NICEIC, PAS 2030/2035 and internal governance audits.
- Review trends arising from audits, defects, complaints and non-conformances, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
- Work collaboratively with Operational Managers to improve installation quality, engineer competence and customer satisfaction.
- Attend internal, client and accreditation meetings where required to provide technical advice and quality assurance support.
- Assist with reviewing and developing installation procedures, technical standards, work instructions and quality documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve installation methods, reduce defects and increase right-first-time performance.
- Promote a positive safety culture, ensuring electrical works are completed in accordance with company policies, safe systems of work and legislative requirements.
