General Labourer – Paint Shop
The role holder will be responsible for supporting the efficient operation of the paint shop and fabrication facility by carrying out a variety of labouring, material handling, and housekeeping duties. The role requires a proactive approach to maintaining high standards of safety, quality and productivity.
Responsibilities
The role holder is required to:
· Work safely at all times and comply with all company health, safety, environmental and quality procedures.
· Wear and maintain the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Achieve high standards of workmanship and attention to detail.
· Follow established procedures, work instructions, and best practices.
· Support the Paint Shop Supervisor and Production Foreman in the day-to-day operation of the department.
· Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
Paint Shop Duties
· Prepare steelwork and components for painting, including cleaning, masking, grinding, and surface preparation as required.
· Assist with the movement of steelwork and components into and out of the paint shop.
· Assist painters with the preparation and handling of materials, equipment, and consumables.
· Carry out touch-up work and minor repairs to painted surfaces where trained and authorised to do so.
· Inspect items, prior to painting, for defects and report and issues to the Paint Shop Supervisor.
· Ensure painted products are handled and stored correctly to prevent damage.
Material Handling and Logistics Duties
· Move steelwork and materials safely throughout the factory using overhead crane, forklifts, bogies, or other approved equipment (subject to training and authorisation).
· Receive, unload, check and store deliveries.
· Pick, prepare, bundle and load steelwork and components for dispatch.
· Assist with the safe loading and unloading of trailers, wagons, and vehicles.
· Maintain accurate records of parts, materials, and stock movements as required.
· Carry out daily pre use checks on cranes, lifting equipment, slings and chains, reporting any defects immediately.
Housekeeping and General Duties
· Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the paint shop, factory and external areas.
· Remove waste materials and dispose of them in accordance with company procedures.
· Keep work area, walkways and storage locations safe, clean and free from hazards.
· Assist with general factory duties as required.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
· Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role as requested by management.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will:
· Have a strong commitment to health and safety.
· Be reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
· Have experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, engineering or paint shop environment (preferred but not essential).
· Preferably have overhead crane and forklift training and certificates, if not then be willing to undertake training for overhead crane, forklift and lifting operations where required.
· Be physically capable of carrying out manual handling activities safely.
· Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Pay: £14.03 per hour
