Abbots Bromley Surgery is a rural dispensing practice, 15 minutes from Uttoxeter, serving a population of ~4000 patients. We pride ourselves on the high quality, family-centred care we provide, made possible by a strong sense of team work.

Previous experience in dispensing, preferable but not essential.

We will provide on the job training and support you to achieve an NVQ2 qualification in Dispensary Services. Candidates must have a GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
Please note holiday cover for colleagues is an integral part of this role.
Job Summary:
- To provide timely, efficient and accurate dispensing of medication to patients.
- To process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice SOPs.
- To escalate discrepancies in prescribing or patient usage when necessary.
- To ensure medication is ordered in a proficient and cost effective manner.
Job Responsibilities:
Dispensing
- Dispensing acute and repeat prescriptions.
- Dealing with patients queries and distributing medicines at window hatch.
- Processing repeat prescription requests received online and via drop box.
- Updating patients’ repeat screens on Doctors’ instructions.
- Dispensing private prescriptions.
- Checking colleagues’ dispensing.
- Ensuring the Dispensary area remains clean and tidy.
- Processing medical exemption forms.
Prescriptions
- Handing out prescriptions and collecting charges when appropriate, by cash or card machine.
- Taking prescription repeats over the telephone where clinically required.
- Collecting private charges for certain medication.
- Completing reverse of prescription paperwork.
- Generating prescriptions.
Stock Control
- Ordering appropriate quantities of goods via the wholesaler’s computer link.
- Checking and unpacking goods upon delivery.
- Returning incorrect goods to the wholesalers via portal.
- Stocking shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas using rotation method.
- Removing ‘out of date’ stock from the shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas.
- Disposal of returned unused medicines.
- Logging returned controlled drugs.
Other
- Assist with training of Trainee Dispensers.
- Provide cover for absent colleagues (either through illness, leave or extraordinary circumstances) as and when required.
- Ensure that you adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies and procedures, relevant to your role.
Salary negotiable and dependent on experience.

- From time to time and as part of the role, you will be required to cover colleagues' annual leave. This may mean up to 8 additional hours of overtime on top of your contracted 20 hours, occasionally at short notice. Please indicate whether you will be able to fulfil this part of the role.
