What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll play a key role in controlling waste stock on site and preparing loads for transfer to third‑party disposal facilities. This is a hands‑on role involving waste handling, plant operation and stock control.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Promote a positive health & safety culture, reporting near‑misses and following safe systems of work
· Complete pre‑use inspections on FLTs, reporting any faults to management
· Carry out PUWER safety checks on equipment and record findings
· Safely operate a counterbalance FLT in line with company policies
· Control vehicle movements on site when trained as a banksman
· Check incoming waste to ensure it meets disposal route requirements
· Sort and assess waste to enable accurate listing
· Segregate unsuitable waste following inspection
· Bulk waste as directed by a technically competent person
· Repack materials into suitable containers for transport and disposal
· Complete batch sheets and lists to maintain full traceability
· List waste to obtain disposal quotations
· Use SAP to batch waste and maintain accurate stock records
· Generate and print paperwork for drivers using SAP
· Prepare outgoing loads, including picking pallets from storage
· Load outgoing vehicles, including hook loader operations
· Carry out housekeeping duties such as sweeping, litter picking and drum crushing
· Support recycling activities and follow COSHH guidelines when handling chemicals
· Raise corrective action reports for improvements or concerns
· Report incidents, observations and safety concerns in line with company procedures
· Assist other teams and carry out additional duties as required by the business
This role is physical, varied and may involve working outdoors — ideal for someone who enjoys staying active and working as part of a team.
Shifts
Rotating shift pattern:
· 5am - 2pm
· 1pm - 10pm
· 9:30pm - 5am
Friday noon Shift - 11am - 8pm
(Once a month overtime is available on Saturday (25% allowance)
Includes early, late and night shifts.
Who We’re Looking For
Essential:
· Counterbalance FLT licence
· Good communication skills across all levels
· Ability to make decisions based on data and information
Preferred (training can be provided):
· Banksman experience
· Experience working in the waste sector
You’ll also bring:
· Understanding of H&S, COSHH, PUWER and waste handling regulations
· Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Flexibility and a proactive, solution‑focused attitude
· Ability to work in a physical, hands‑on environment
· Good attention to detail and organisational skills
