The UHNM Cardiology Department provides a comprehensive range of cardiac investigations & treatments for patients with a wide range of cardiac disorders. The Chief Healthcare Scientist – Valve Clinic Lead will hold BSE accreditation and provide expert diagnostic leadership, management, and strategic development of the Heart Valve Disease Service and Valve Clinic. The post holder will lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care for individuals with native and prosthetic valve disease, ensuring compliance with national guidelines, professional standards, and local governance requirements.
The role combines advanced clinical practice, autonomous decision-making, service leadership, multidisciplinary team working, education, research, and quality improvement. The post holder will act as a highly specialised practitioner, undertaking complex clinical assessments, interpreting advanced cardiac investigations, and contributing to patient management decisions within agreed protocols
Lead and manage the Heart Valve Clinic service, under the guidance of our imaging Consultant Cardiologist, ensuring safe, effective, and timely patient care. Undertake independent assessment and follow-up of patients with heart valve disease in accordance with agreed protocols and national guidelines. Interpret complex echocardiographic and other cardiac diagnostic findings to support diagnosis, surveillance, and treatment planning. Perform and report advanced echocardiographic investigations within own scope of practice. Monitor service performance, activity levels, waiting times, and clinical outcomes. Lead clinical audit, service evaluation, and quality improvement projects related to diagnostic valve disease services. Develop service improvement initiatives and contribute to departmental operational management where required.
