Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and inspiring Musical Theatre Teacher to join our Doorstep Arts team. The successful candidate will be passionate about nurturing young performers and confident in delivering engaging, high-quality training across singing, dance and acting for children and young people aged 7–20 years.
This role requires someone who can lead inclusive, creative sessions for groups with a wide range of abilities and experience levels.
Working alongside another artist, you'll become an important part of our close-knit team, helping to nurture young performers of all abilities, including those with SEND, and supporting them to shine both in weekly sessions and end-of-term performances.
Responsibilities
- Co-plan and co-deliver dynamic weekly Musical Theatre workshops across vocals, dance and acting
- Encourage children and young people to contribute their own ideas and creative input throughout the rehearsal process
- Co-lead and support groups towards an end-of-term sharing or performance each 11-week term
- Take responsibility for session management, alongside another artist: Maintaining registers. First aid procedures. Safeguarding and child protection responsibilities. Parent and guardian communication. Responding to new participant enquiries and acting as a key point of contact
- Attend and contribute to meetings with Senior Leadership and the core Doorstep team, reflecting on practice and helping to shape the future development of the programme
- Work collaboratively with the wider team to maintain high standards of teaching and participant experience
- Responsible for opening and closing the building before and after each session, ensuring appropriate safeguarding and security procedures are followed
- Provide mentorship, support and guidance to assistants helping with sessions
Essential Skills & Experience
- Extensive practical experience in Musical Theatre, with the ability to confidently teach singing, dance and acting
- Several years previous experience teaching children and young people, ideally across the 7–20 age range
- Experience leading groups with mixed abilities and diverse skill sets
- Excellent time keeping and behaviour management skills
- A creative and adaptable teaching style that encourages participation and personal growth
- Experience supporting children and young people with SEND/Neurodiversity
- Excellent communication and organisational skills with confidence in using Google Drive and Gmail
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- Ability to commit to full 11-week terms on a freelance basis
Desirable Experience
- Experience directing or leading large-scale musical theatre productions or showcases
- Relevant qualifications in Musical Theatre, Performing Arts, Dance, Drama, Music, Education, or a related field
- Any experience leading Early Years sessions independently or supporting sessions
- Current First Aid and Safeguarding training (or willingness to undertake training)
- DBS certificate or willingness to have completed

The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
Applicants will need to be available on Wednesday 29th July for interviews and workshop session. Time to be confirmed.
Applicants will also need to hold the following dates: Wednesday 5th, Thursday 6th and Friday 7th August, where shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend DAS group rehearsals as part of the recruitment process. Attendance on one of these dates will be discussed and confirmed following shortlisting.
Starting rate dependent on experience.Independent Associate evening rate: £60/session rate.
There will also be opportunities for progression and increased rates of pay within the role. This is a minimum rate and will adjust up depending on the levels of experience of candidates. For more information regarding our payment rates and teacher artist progression get in touch.
