Job Title: Plasterer / Dry Liner
Company: Rubik Builders Limited
Location: Telford, Wolverhampton and surrounding region (site-based, with travel between projects)
Reports to: Site Manager / Contracts Manager
Contract type: Temporary to permanent — initial 3-month fixed term, with a view to a permanent position subject to performance and business needs
Pay: £16–£18 per hour (dependent on experience), PAYE, paid via monthly payroll
Hours: [Insert — e.g. 8am–4.30pm, Mon–Fri, 40 hrs/week]
Role purpose
To deliver high-quality plastering and dry lining works across Rubik Builders' retrofit, new build and refurbishment projects, working to specification, programme and the quality standards required under PAS 2035 and our framework obligations. The role spans both wet plastering finishes and dry lining / boarding, including works associated with internal wall insulation (IWI) systems. As a key member of the site team, the successful candidate will also be expected to support other trades when no plastering or dry lining work is available, to keep projects moving and complete on programme.
Key responsibilities
- Hang, fix and finish plasterboard to walls, ceilings and partitions, including metal stud and timber frame systems.
- Apply skim, float-and-set and render finishes to a smooth, defect-free standard ready for decoration.
- Board and finish over internal wall insulation systems in line with manufacturer details and the retrofit design.
- Install insulated plasterboard / laminate boards and proprietary IWI systems where specified.
- Form and finish reveals, junctions and detailing to manage thermal bridging and maintain continuity of insulation.
- Tape, joint and fill dry lined surfaces to a Level [3/4/5] finish as required.
- Support other trades on site — labouring, prep, snagging and general assistance — during periods when plastering or dry lining work is not available, to help deliver projects on time.
- Set out work accurately from drawings and specifications, raising any conflicts with the supervisor.
- Keep the work area clean, tidy and safe at all times, protecting completed works and occupants' property, particularly in occupied (tenanted) properties.
- Comply with all health, safety and quality procedures, including RAMS, and report defects or non-conformances promptly.
Skills and experience required
- Proven experience in both wet plastering and dry lining within a construction or social housing retrofit environment.
- Sound knowledge of plasterboard fixing, jointing and skimming to a high finish.
- Familiarity with internal wall insulation systems and an understanding of why detailing and airtightness matter (training can be provided for the right candidate).
- A genuine team player — willing and able to muck in across other trades to get projects over the line.
- Reliable, conscientious, and committed to keeping a clean and tidy working environment.
- Ability to read and work from technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail, productivity and pride in finished work.
Qualifications and certifications
- Valid CSCS card (Skilled Worker / relevant trade).
- NVQ Level 2 in Plastering or Dry Lining (or equivalent demonstrable experience).
- Asbestos awareness (UKATA or equivalent) — desirable.
- IWI / retrofit system installer training (e.g. manufacturer accreditation) — desirable.
- Full UK driving licence — desirable, given travel between sites.
What we offer
