Job Purpose
The Order Dispatcher is responsible for ensuring customer orders, internal transfers, and outbound goods are checked, prepared, and dispatched accurately and on time. The role plays a key part in maintaining dispatch accuracy, meeting courier and delivery deadlines, and ensuring goods leave the warehouse in line with company standards and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare picked orders for dispatch in line with daily schedules and operational priorities.
- Check goods against order details, delivery notes, dispatch paperwork, or system information to ensure accuracy.
- Ensure the correct items, quantities, customer details, delivery addresses, and courier services are applied to each order.
- Pack, label, scan, and process parcels or pallets for dispatch using relevant systems and courier platforms.
- Load goods safely onto delivery vehicles, courier cages, pallets, or designated collection areas.
- Ensure orders are dispatched within agreed service levels and collection deadlines.
- Identify and report shortages, damaged goods, incorrect orders, or delivery issues to a Team Leader or Manager.
- Support the investigation of dispatch errors, failed deliveries, missing parcels, or courier queries where required.
- Maintain accurate records of dispatched goods, courier collections, manifests, and delivery documentation.
- Ensure all goods are handled carefully to prevent damage during packing, movement, loading, or dispatch.
- Keep the dispatch area clean, organised, safe, and free from hazards.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including safe manual handling and correct use of warehouse equipment.
- Work closely with picking, packing, stock control, customer service, and management teams to ensure smooth order fulfilment.
- Support stock movement, replenishment, returns, or general warehouse duties when required.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Previous warehouse, dispatch, packing, logistics, retail stockroom, or similar experience is desirable.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Good organisational skills.
- Ability to follow processes and complete paperwork or system tasks accurately.
- Good timekeeping and reliability.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
Desirable:
- Experience using handheld scanners, warehouse management systems, or courier dispatch systems.
- Previous experience preparing courier manifests or delivery paperwork.
- Manual handling training.
- Experience loading vehicles, working with pallets, cages, or bulk dispatch.
- Forklift, pallet truck, or other warehouse equipment experience, where relevant.
