Location: Reading
Employment Type: Full-Time / 50 hours per week (must be flexible)
Reporting To: Site Supervisor / Site Manager
Salary: Up to £28p/hr depending on experience

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work across Reading & Berkshire, we are seeking experienced Pipelayers / Machine Drivers to join our site teams.
Role Overview
As a pipelayer / machine driver, you will be responsible for installing pipeline infrastructure safely, accurately and to specification you will also be able to operate heavy machinery specifically including 360 excavators. You will play a key role in ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install foul water, surface water and rising main pipelines.
- Lay concrete, clay, ductile iron, steel and plastic pipework to specification.
- Carry out confined space works where trained and authorised.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, setting out information and utility plans.
- Carry out pipe bedding, backfilling and compaction in accordance with specifications.
- Install manholes, chambers, inspection chambers and associated drainage structures.
- Ensure correct line and level using laser levels and surveying equipment.
- Carry out pipe jointing using manufacturer-approved methods.
- Assist with deep excavations and trench support systems.
- Operate heavy machinery specifically including 360 excavators safely.
- Assist with testing, commissioning and pressure testing of pipelines.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working area.
- Report defects, hazards and quality issues immediately.
- Work collaboratively with Groundworkers, Machine Operators and Site Engineers.
- Follow company procedures and client specifications at all times.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Pipelayer within Civil Engineering.
- Ability to install pipelines to line and level.
- 360 Excavator certificate.
- Experience laying:
- Concrete pipes
- Clay pipes
- Plastic drainage systems
- Ductile iron pipe
- Good understanding of trench safety.
- Ability to read engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of pipe gradients and falls.
- Experience installing manholes and chambers.
- Good communication skills.
- Strong awareness of Health & Safety.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience on wastewater, drainage or utilities projects.
- CPCS or NPORS qualifications.
- Experience on civil engineering, highways, utilities, or infrastructure projects.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
- Manual Handling training.
