About the Role
Ultrasound Centre Croydon is seeking a reliable, experienced, and patient-focused Phlebotomist to join our growing private clinic.
This is a combined Phlebotomist and Receptionist position. The successful candidate will carry out venepuncture procedures and also support the reception and administrative duties of the clinic.
The role is suitable for someone who is confident and highly experienced in venepuncture, has a calm and professional approach to patient care, and is comfortable working independently in a private clinical environment.
Due to the importance of punctuality and the possibility of early starting times, applicants who live in Croydon or within approximately five miles of the clinic are preferred. Applicants living further away may still apply, provided they have reliable transport and can travel to the clinic punctually and comfortably.

Key ResponsibilitiesPhlebotomy Duties
- Perform venepuncture safely, efficiently, and confidently
- Confirm patient identity before every procedure
- Explain the procedure and obtain appropriate consent
- Reassure nervous or anxious patients
- Take blood from patients with a range of vein types, including difficult veins
- Label samples accurately and immediately after collection
- Handle, store, and prepare blood samples for laboratory collection or testing
- Follow infection prevention, sharps, and clinical waste procedures
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records
- Keep the clinical area clean, organised, and fully stocked
Reception and Administrative Duties
- Welcome patients in a professional and friendly manner
- Answer telephone calls and respond to patient enquiries
- Book, confirm, and manage patient appointments
- Process payments and provide receipts where required
- Maintain accurate electronic patient records
- Respond to emails and general enquiries
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of the clinic
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
Essential Requirements
- A recognised phlebotomy or venepuncture qualification
- Valid and up-to-date phlebotomy certificates
- Substantial practical experience taking blood from patients
- Current or recent day-to-day venepuncture experience
- Confidence working independently
- Strong communication and patient-care skills
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Understanding of infection prevention and control
- Good IT and administrative skills
- A professional, reliable, and punctual approach
- Right to work in the UK

Preferred Requirements
- Previous experience working in a private clinic, hospital, GP surgery, laboratory, or healthcare setting
- Previous reception or administrative experience
- Experience supporting anxious patients
- Experience taking blood from patients with difficult veins
- Applicants living in Croydon or within approximately five miles of the clinic
- Ability to attend early shifts and travel reliably to the clinic
