Role Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Manager to take full cradle-to-grave ownership of our equipment fleet and consumables. Unlike traditional procurement roles, this position has no set budget but carries the expectation of delivering hard cost savings through strategic negotiation and logistical efficiency.
You will bridge the gap between depot operations and procurement. You are the gatekeeper of pricing, supplier relationships, and asset lifecycle management. In 2026, your primary mission is to reduce expenditure through optimized stock holdings.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
- Sourcing: Identify and onboard suppliers for tools, plant equipment, spare parts, and consumables to ensure "best products" are secured.
- Negotiation: Lead commercial negotiations on purchase prices and delivery terms to protect company profits.
- Market Awareness: Continuously monitor industry trends, competitor strategies, and customer demands to identify risks and opportunities for cost savings.
2. Total Asset Lifecycle Management (Cradle to Grave)
- Birth (Fleeting): Input all equipment onto Excel, Syrinx, and all relevant systems. Assign plant numbers and "fleet" all equipment.
- Life: Set up system reminders for certifications, service dates, and maintenance. Monitor equipment lifecycle and condition to ensure operational uptime. Update price books and pricing structures.
- Death (Disposal): Manage the decommissioning process including de-numbering, de-stickering, and arranging third-party disposal. "Sell ex-fleet" and make units available for sale.
3. Inventory & Logistics Optimization (2026 Focus)
- Expenditure Reduction: Achieve 2026 cost saving targets specifically by limiting depot transfers/runs. Ensure depots have sufficient stock to operate autonomously.
- Demand Forecasting: Watch customer demands and work with depot/workshop managers to predict stock needs for new kit to limit breakdowns and costs.
- New Equipment: Source new kit strategically to reduce mechanical breakdowns and long-term repair costs.
4. Commercial & Data Administration
- Pricing: Create pricing structures, adjust price lists, manage distribution, and set up new customer groups.
- Data Analysis: Analyse fleet data to inform purchasing decisions and identify slow-moving stock.
- Compliance: Ensure all purchases meet safety, health, and environmental standards (ISO 9001/H&S).
5. Cross-Departmental & Depot Support
- Liaison: Attend regular meetings and liaise directly with Depot Managers to understand equipment pain points.
- Internal Support: Help other departments troubleshoot equipment they have bought independently.
- Distribution: Manage the sourcing and physical/logistical distribution of consumables to depots.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Cost Savings: Reduction in total expenditure.
- Fleet Availability: Reduction in downtime caused by lack of stock or breakdowns.
- Supplier Performance: Vendor reliability, lead times, and product quality scores.
- Disposal Efficiency: Speed of de-stickering, de-numbering, and selling ex-fleet assets.
- Inventory Accuracy: Integrity of data in Excel and Syrinx.
