Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT). Please note that employees are employed directly by GMS on GMS terms and conditions (see attached Terms and Conditions) and not under NHS Agenda for Change arrangements.

We are recruiting two Deputy Heads of Estates, with one post based at Cheltenham General Hospital and one post based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

These are key leadership roles responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of Estates services across each hospital site. Working closely with the Deputy Associate Director of Estates - Head of Estates, you will provide operational leadership across planned and reactive maintenance services, engineering systems, compliance activities and workforce management.

You will lead Estates teams to deliver high-quality, customer-focused services, ensure compliance with statutory and healthcare technical standards, support capital and infrastructure projects, and drive continuous improvement across Estates operations.

The role provides leadership continuity across Estates services and includes participation in the senior management on-call rota.

You will lead and manage the delivery of planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and engineering services across an assigned hospital site, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, healthcare technical standards and organisational policies.

The role includes responsibility for service performance, workforce leadership, contractor management, risk management and continuous improvement. You will wok closely with Estates colleagues, clinical teams, contractors and external stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient and customer-focused services are delivered at all times.

We are looking for a visible and engaging leader with significant experience in Estates, Engineering or Facilities Management services within a complex operational environment. Strong leadership, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, together with a commitment to developing high-performing teams and delivering excellent customer service.

The Deputy Head of Estates is responsible for leading the delivery of safe, efficient and customer-focused Estates services across an assigned hospital site.

The postholder will provide operational leadership across planned and reactive maintenance services, engineering systems, compliance activities and workforce management, ensuring services are delivered in line with contractual requirements, healthcare technical standards and organisational objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading and managing Estates operational services, including planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and engineering services.
Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, healthcare technical standards, health and safety legislation and contractual obligations.
Monitoring service performance, managing operational risks and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Supporting Authorised Persons arrangements and ensuring engineering systems are managed safely and effectively.
Managing workforce performance, development, resource planning and employee relations matters.
Monitoring contractor and supplier performance to ensure service standards are achieved.
Supporting the delivery of capital and infrastructure projects while maintaining operational service continuity.
Contributing to governance, assurance, business planning and budget management processes.
Deputising for the Deputy Associate Director of Estates – Head of Estates as required.

The postholder will work closely with colleagues across Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS), Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT), contractors and external stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of Estates services.
