Teaching and Learning Mentor – Make a Real Difference!

Salary: £21,258 – £22,942 per annum

Location: Wandsworth, London SW18

Contract: Permanent, Full-time – Term-time only (39 weeks per year)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday – with an early 4pm finish on Fridays!

The Role

As a Teaching and Learning Mentor, you’ll work within our Post-19 service, supporting autistic young adults aged 19–25 both within the learning environment and out in the community.

You’ll work alongside a dedicated team using Behaviour Analysis principals (full training provided) to help learners develop communication, life skills, and independence as they transition into adulthood.

Our Post-19 programme provides a personalised curriculum tailored to each student, focusing on:

Functional communication and language development
Independent and supported living skills
Vocational training and employment preparation
Health and wellbeing
Active participation in the community

Our aim is to equip every learner with the confidence and practical skills needed for the next stage of adult life.

What We Offer

✨ Term-time only working – 39 weeks per year, ideal for work-life balance

Competitive salary progression

£21,258 per annum starting salary
£22,059 per annum after successful probation (16 weeks)
£22,942 per annum (subject to satisfactory performance and a successful annual appraisal, in line with the school’s appraisal cycle (September to August)
Annual salary is divided into 12 equal monthly payments and paid monthly, so you earn the same every month irrespective of whether there is a term break within the month.

What We’re Looking For

This role suits someone confident, organised, and passionate about empowering young people to achieve meaningful progress.

You will ideally have:

A genuine passion for supporting autistic young adults
GCSE pass in English and Maths essential (or equivalent)
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Patience, kindness, and the ability to build rapport quickly
Resilience to manage the emotional and physical demands of the role
Basic IT and MS Office skills and Tech Savvy (for recording and updating student data)
Willingness to travel using public transport

Experience That Could Be Relevant

You may already have professional experience supporting young people, or you may have gained valuable experience in other ways.

For example:

You may be an experienced tutor or teacher
You may have worked with children in a therapeutic or educational setting
You may have supported vulnerable family members
You may have experience in care or community support roles
You may have experience in sports coaching or youth work
