The Mowlem is a thriving arts hub for Swanage and a charitable organisation offering creative events throughout the year. We are an independent cinema with a 380-seat auditorium, studio space, gallery, and Showbar. Each year, we host over 300 events and welcome more than 25,000 visitors through our doors. Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Marketing Assistant to join our small, dedicated team for a six‑month period (July–December 2026). You will support a wide range of marketing activities and campaigns, with a strong focus on social media, content creation, and audience development.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and schedule social media content across Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn
- Research and contribute creative ideas to promote our programme of events
- Review and update website content, writing copy and liaising with content owners
- Analyse marketing analytics to evaluate campaign effectiveness
- Assist with writing and designing printed materials
- Distribute flyers locally to promote events in Swanage and Purbeck
- Create a monthly “What’s On” press newsletter
- Support the team at events where a marketing presence is required
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
- Interest in theatre, cinema, music, and the role of the arts in the community
- Understanding of arts marketing and its key activities
- Experience creating engaging social media content tailored to different platforms
- Design skills using Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud
- Strong organisational and writing skills, with excellent attention to detail
- Good teamwork and communication abilities
- Reliable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when required
- Community engagement — working with local partners, festivals, and organisations
Desirable
- Photography, videography and film editing skills - to support our social media output
- Email marketing — experience with Mailchimp or similar platforms
- Analytics literacy — interpreting insights from Meta, Google Analytics, etc.
- Audience development — understanding how to grow and diversify audiences
