Full job description

Hours: 24 per week
Shift Pattern: 8:00am - 4:00pm, 3 shifts a week, every other weekend.

The Activities Coordinator plays a central role in creating a meaningful, stimulating, and person‑centred daily life for residents living with dementia. The core purpose of the role is to design and deliver an engaging activity programme that supports residents’ cognitive abilities, emotional wellbeing, social connection, and sense of purpose.

Key Responsibilities:

Create and maintain activity plannes - designing a balanced schedule of group and one‑to‑one activities tailored to residents’ abilities, interests, and care plans.
Plan, organise, and lead daily activities
Adapt activities for varying stages of dementia, ensuring accessibility, safety, and meaningful engagement for all residents.
Work collaboratively with care staff to integrate activities into daily routines and ensure continuity of support.
Build relationships with residents to understand their life histories, preferences, and triggers, using this knowledge to personalise activities.
Encourage participation by creating a warm, inclusive atmosphere and offering gentle prompts or one‑to‑one support when needed.
Monitor and record engagement, documenting attendance, responses, and outcomes to support care planning and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate external entertainers, volunteers, and community partners to enrich the activity programme.
Ensure all activities comply with health and safety standards, including risk assessments and safe use of materials.
Support residents during outings by planning accessible trips and ensuring appropriate staffing and safety measures.
Contribute to a dementia‑friendly environment through sensory enhancements, memory displays, and meaningful objects.

Skills & Qualities:

Strong understanding of dementia care principles and person‑centred practice
Creative, energetic, and able to motivate others
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Empathy, patience, and emotional resilience
Ability to plan, organise, and prioritise effectively
Confidence leading groups and adapting activities on the spot
