Joining Arup
Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. Our water team works in 90 countries, collaborating across over 50 related technical and advisory disciplines. This is how we’re able to respond to such a wide range of water projects and programmes, from the Shanghai drainage masterplan to the expertise and detailed design on Mansfield Sustainable Flood Resilience.
The Opportunity
We are recruiting in our Hydrology, Hydraulics and Economics team based in the North West and Yorkshire. Our team delivers a wide range of projects in the fields of flood risk and river and catchment science, from flood risk management for the Environment Agency to channel restoration for NGO's, and malaria forecasting for the WHO.
We use consultancy, engineering and research to bring the most insightful approaches to water projects wherever they are in the world. Arup helps the world manage its water, from the supply of clean drinking water to understanding flood risks, from drainage to sanitation. Across the UK, our multi disciplinary water professionals support clients on projects ranging from national policy development, adaptive pathways strategies, strategic water resource and wastewater planning, and investment plans and strategic business cases.
What You Will Do
In this role, you will contribute to technical work spanning hydraulic modelling, hydrology, flood risk management, and river restoration, supporting projects such as Environment Agency flood risk schemes, channel restoration initiatives, and broader catchment science applications.
You will work collaboratively across multiple disciplines within Arup, contributing to integrated solutions that include river and catchment restoration, dam and reservoir design, and major infrastructure development. This involves engaging with teams working across different sectors and applying your technical expertise within wider, multi-disciplinary project environments, including international and cross-sector applications.
You will also be part of a global and locally connected organisation, working on both UK-based and international projects. The role involves client-facing responsibilities, developing leadership capability, and progressing towards senior-level delivery, while contributing to knowledge-sharing across technical networks and broader organisational expertise.
Is This Role Right for You?
We are looking for someone with:
Applied experience in hydraulic modelling, hydrology, flood risk, and/or river restoration, with strong technical skills in one or more of these areas
Progress toward (or attainment of) professional status with CIWEM or the ICE
A bright, enthusiastic, and motivated approach to technical work
Interest in developing leadership and project delivery skills
Confidence working in a client-facing role
Ambition to progress into a senior technical or leadership position
