Full job description

Gardener Required for a Private Household in Fyfield, Essex.

JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of this role is to support the creation, improvement, and maintenance of high-quality outdoor landscapes and gardens. The position contributes to the overall appearance, health, and functionality of grounds by carrying out a wide range of horticultural, landscaping, and maintenance tasks. Working as part of a team, the role ensures that all planting, landscaping features, and equipment are cared for to a high standard while adhering to Health and Safety requirements.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Landscape Maintenance: Carry out mowing, trimming, weeding, and other tasks to maintain high-quality outdoor spaces.
Landscape Feature Installation: Assist with constructing and installing landscape elements to enhance overall aesthetics.
Soil Preparation: Dig, cultivate, and prepare soil to create optimal conditions for planting.
Team Support: Work closely with team leaders and support all on-site activities to ensure efficient daily operations.
Tool Use: Operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
Garden Care: Plant, prune, and maintain a variety of vegetation to improve and preserve garden appearance.
Equipment Maintenance: Use mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot, service, and repair equipment to keep operations running smoothly.
Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all Health and Safety procedures are followed at all times.
Additional Duties: Perform any other tasks as directed by the Line Manager.
Plant Propagation & Removal: Support the propagation of plants as well as the safe removal of unwanted vegetation.
Pest & Nutrition Programs: Assist with applying pest management treatments and plant nutrition programmes.

QUALIFICATIONS PREREQUISITES

Physical Fitness: Capable of meeting the physical demands of hard and soft landscaping work.
Weather Resilience: Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Driving Licence: A full UK driving licence is required.
Experience: Previous landscaping experience is beneficial but not essential. Enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, and willingness to learn are key.
Gardening Experience: General interest or basic knowledge of gardening — for example, a keen home gardener or someone who maintains an allotment. Formal experience is not required
Technical Skills: Proficiency with gardening equipment and the ability to maintain and service tools and machinery.
