Job Summary
NDES is hosted by the Metropolitan Police Service’s (MPS) CTP London command and brings together seven strands of digital investigative services. Our vision is to be a world leading service that delivers effective new capabilities for CT policing: to exploit digital technology and deny terrorists and other criminal investigated by the CT Network the ability to operate.
The services within the NDES group include:
Communications Data Exploitation, Open-Source Exploitation, Digital Media Exploitation, Lawful Intercept, Technical Innovation and Development Environment (TIDE), Digital Biometric Exploitation, Digital Operations
This role supports TIDE as a Band I technical role within our Video and Electronics Labs. TIDE works on new and emerging technologies, whilst maintaining adherence to local, national and international policies and standards. These include Forensic Science Regulator (FSR) and International Organisation of Standardisation (ISO).
It is the expectation that the successful candidate will work alongside staff and officers in the department to support local workloads. Therefore, a keen interest and experience in technical environments will be essential. A moderate to advanced knowledge of computer environments will also be mandatory. This will include system architecture and connectivity.
It will be our intent to ensure the successful candidates are exposed to the work of the departments, actively partaking in the processes and delivery of service. Both labs have a commitment to continuous professional development of staff.
The Video and Electronics labs are hands on with physical devices in a forensic capacity. Both labs are an advanced forensic function within CTP London, supporting core NDES teams and stakeholders.
Experience in digital forensics, electronics or CCTV/Video will be of interest.
Key Tasks
The post holder will be required to do the following:
Forensic imaging and extraction of data from digital devices, including mobile devices, computers, and storage media in support of CCTV/Video and Electronics Lab support as a technician
Supporting non-technical staff, including police officers, to operate digital forensic systems
Work closely with our Quality Management team to ensure the departments you work for meet the stringent needs of accreditation, learning the processes of your departments.
Quality assuring/peer reviewing examinations
Provision of evidence viewing capabilities for investigating officers
Answering technical queries from non-technical staff and police officers
Court appearance as witness of fact
Vetting
This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post.
This post requires British nationality (some dual nationals may be ineligible) and an Enhanced Security Check (eSC)/Developed Vetting (DV)] clearance.
As the post holder will have access to very sensitive information, there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries and we will undertake additional security checks as part of the recruitment process. Applications from candidates with close connections to certain countries may take considerably longer to process, or in some cases result in a withdrawal of an offer of employment. Further details will be provided at the conditional offer stage.
Confidentiality Agreement
Applicants should also be aware of the need to sign a confidentiality agreement on taking up the post.
